Electrical Staff Engineering Technician – Power Generation Modeler/Designer

This opportunity with Black & Veatch offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams within the Power Providers Market Sector, supporting Advanced Power Generation (APG) projects and building critical infrastructure for today's and tomorrow's challenges. Electrical professionals contribute to power systems design, including duct bank design, cable tray design, grounding, lighting, and other electrical systems supporting advanced power generation facilities.

The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Staff Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high-quality engineering 2D/3D deliverables for these complex infrastructure projects. Under general supervision, this position performs technical tasks requiring advanced knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices, with a focus on creating and modifying electrical design drawings using advanced techniques in industry-standard design tools, such as Bentley Micro Station and other Bentley tools.

For lighting design, experience with AGI
32 is preferred to support accurate modeling and illumination calculations across APG facilities.

Key responsibilities include functioning in a project engineering technician capacity, supporting engineering and design teams by developing and modifying technical deliverables, applying foundational engineering principles and established design practices to create moderately complex design concepts and solutions, utilizing digital tools and design software to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables, providing technical guidance and direction to other engineering professionals and technicians, applying knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes and BV policies and procedures, reviewing design inputs to ensure consistency, assisting to ensure deliverables are in compliance with specific codes and standards suitable for the project, applying judgment and making decisions with respect to deliverables and input interpretation, handling difficult technical assignments within an area of expertise and providing technical guidance to other professionals, performing design calculations, detailed material quantities and estimates, and records, reviewing the deliverables of others, defining work assignments and maintaining schedules, programming control systems or participating in other plant start-up activities associated with a specialized area of expertise, coordinating with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development, supporting field activities, focusing on the needs of internal clients while utilizing an understanding of external clients' main interests and drivers, proactively seeking and sharing knowledge of latest technologies and processes.

Preferred qualifications include a diploma or certificate, an associate degree in drafting or an engineering design related technology, and a minimum of 5 years related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments. In accordance with local requirements, the annual compensation ranges for this role are listed below by state or jurisdiction and reflect the applicable office location(s) within each. Final compensation is determined based on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, internal alignment, geographic location, and other factors permitted by law.

State of Colorado: $74,360 – $124,190

State of Minnesota: $70,980 – $118,545
