Key Responsibilities
Staff Management Manages a team of professional and/or technical staff responsible for construction, maintenance, inspection, analysis, troubleshooting and investigation of PGE's control, protection, or automation systems; provides technical management for the team, ensuring that objectives are met and all relevant standards/procedures are followed; ensures that operational problems are identified and resolved; ensures that operational procedures and working practices are current and fit for the purpose.
Program Management Contributes to execution of PGE power delivery and corporate capital investment plans, as well as integrated grid strategies. Adapts departmental plans to address business and operational challenges, including business, production and/or organizational priorities; assists with annual operations and maintenance plans, policies, goals and objectives of the particular area managed; implements procedures and standards that support the corporate strategic direction and follow the industry best practices;
assesses and implements new technology, particularly in support of the integrated grid.
Compliance and Safety Ensures compliance with procedures and functional criteria for complex control, protection and automation schemes. Ensures the use of safe working practices.
Internal/External Collaboration Partners with other Operational Technology leaders to develop and refine PGE's Construction Quality Assurance and Operations and Maintenance programs. Serves as a liaison between associates, engineering and internal/external customers to ensure a high level of satisfaction, safety and respect. Partners with Labor Relations and IBEW to develop a sustainable talent pipeline for associates. Contributes to achieving community support of and respect for the company.
Financial Management Monitors and manages expenditures, ensuring that all financial targets are met, and examines any areas where budgets/expenditures vary from plan; assists with the definition and operation of effective financial controls and decision making.
Resourcing Oversees resourcing decisions and planning for team; partners with HR in the definition of jobs, recruitment, evaluation and selection processes.
Professional Development Reviews organizational development needs and training strategies to determine required learning and development outcomes for the team; provides guidance in the creation of development plans; monitors ongoing progress and provides coaching and mentoring and provides feedback; completes annual performance management reviews.
Education / Experience
Education Requires a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science or other related field or equivalent applicable union technical experience.
Experience Prefer eight or more years in the utility industry with five years in a related technology field, including management/supervisory or other leadership experience.
Requires a valid driver's license and a history of safe driving practices.
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)

- Working knowledge of NERC, OPUC and FCC requirements for construction and maintenance work as they relate to distribution, substation or communication systems.
- Intermediate knowledge of theory and practice of power quality, control, protection, automation or telecommunication concepts.
- Advanced knowledge of relevant equipment, computer systems and applications, policies, procedures and strategies to promote effective and secure operations.
- Intermediate knowledge of engineering and economic principles relating to utility distribution systems.
- Advanced knowledge of rules and regulations and applicable codes pertaining to the design and operation of a power supply system.
- Working knowledge of PGE's transmission, distribution and generation systems.
- Advanced knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
- Working knowledge of Oregon OSHA rules.
- Working knowledge of the union agreement and labor laws.
- Working knowledge of operations planning and budgeting.
- Basic knowledge of database and work management systems.
