Donation Pick-Up and Warehouse Assistance (age 18+) Referral
Help our neighbors gain access to food through a number of opportunities at our food pantry.
About the ProgramThe Tualatin Food Pantry's mission is to alleviate food insecurity in our community in a welcoming way that brings dignity and choice to our neighbors.
About the ProjectThis shift involves working with a core volunteer to pick-up donated food to the Tualatin Food Pantry. After the pick-ups, the volunteer brings all food back to the pantry and stocks the items appropriately in the warehouse.
The exact schedule will vary slightly but is close to the following:
- 7:30-8:30 – pick up DPI/Ke He
- 8:30-9:30 – put away DPI/KeHE donation at Pantry
- 9:30-11:00 – pick up Target
- 11:00-12:30 – put away Target donation at Pantry
- 1:00 – pick up Gleaners
- 1:30-2:00 – drop off Gleaners at Pantry
Volunteers in this role gain hands‑on experience in food distribution logistics and warehouse operations, including safely using equipment like pallet jacks and properly organizing and stocking inventory. They also build practical skills such as coordinating pickups, time management, and safe lifting techniques.
Beyond these technical abilities, volunteers develop a deeper understanding of food insecurity and the critical role community pantries like the Tualatin Food Pantry play in supporting local families. This experience offers meaningful insight into how donated food moves from large providers to those in need, and how consistent volunteer efforts directly impact community well‑being.
