Overview
Sr. Supplier Quality Engineer – Hybrid
The Sr. Supplier Quality Engineer will ensure the overall quality of supplied manufactured products. They will investigate and disposition nonconforming product and work to prevent its recurrence at the source by way of SCARs, implementing control plans, and utilizing R&R and biased gaging methods. They will also support production needs in a timely manner by organizing required scrap, sorts, and rework for supplied nonconforming material, as necessary.
Working in a team environment, the Sr. Supplier Quality Engineer will collaborate with cross functional teams including Design Engineers, Manufacturing, internal Quality, Project Management, Production Planning, Incoming Inspection, Purchasing as well as outside manufacturing and OSP suppliers.
- Review and disposition non-compliant material of major complexity utilizing provided and self-verified inspection data, and use quality methods (e.g., statistics, pareto) to assess causes and priorities. Accurately & independently assess issue culpability.
- Accurately determine correct gaging methods to aid incoming inspection and when verifying inspection data. Collect data for Gage R&R and bias. Design and source custom gages for specific applications. Approve design of custom gages created by Supplier Quality Engineers I and II.
- Experienced in MRP, PPAP, and Microsoft programs including Access. Extensive knowledge of the supplier quality management systems and Vendor Evaluation systems. Ability to train less experienced team members on these systems. Extensive knowledge of and the ability to make modifications to the supplier quality manual, PSO form and Vendor Evaluation Tool.
- Highly proficient in print reading, GD&T, and application of external specifications. Fully interpret dimensional tolerances & specifications and comprehensively apply them to components of all levels of complexity. In-depth understanding of ASME Y14.5. Fully & independently identify complex datum structures and accurately interpret all feature control frames.
- In-depth knowledge of the ISO compliance process. Lead portions of ISO compliance, and participates as a critical member of ISO compliance team, and serves as a primary QC representative for both internal and external ISO audits.
- Proficient in ATF Compliance and recognizing when input from the compliance team is needed to resolve/clarify compliance related issues. Serve as QC liaison to ATF Compliance team.
- Independently identify areas of need for SCARs to generate and drive to completion SCARs, and execute to meet business needs.
- May lead and actively volunteer for continuous improvement projects and tasks.
- Participate in 5S workplace organizational activities and maintain work area in accordance with 5S standard. Actively & effectively participate in continuous improvement efforts & events as requested.
- Able to maintain equipment and gaging, requesting maintenance and consulting with maintenance representatives as needed.
- Must follow all required safety and ISO procedures.

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering sciences, and 7-10 years of experience in a Manufacturing or Quality Engineering role. Master's degree is preferred.
- High level of mechanical technical expertise required. Proficient with inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, microhites, optical comparators and the creation of overlays, the use of blue light scanning software, analysis of CMM probe paths, and hardness tester. Must be able to train level I and level II Supplier Quality Engineers on how to use this inspection equipment and software.
- Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications. Must have experience with CAD software.
- Experience evaluating and troubleshooting all steps from receiving inspection of raw material to final inspection of completed parts of the manufacturing processes at suppliers, and assisting in implementing permanent corrective actions to the supplier's manufacturing process.
- Ability to clearly and accurately convey ideas and information to suppliers and internal customers, both verbally and in written form. Must tailor communication to the audience.
- Collaborative team member who helps other parts of the team and shares knowledge to enhance skill level of fellow team members.
- Able to operate independently at a high level to identify and complete required tasks in a timely manner. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks independently.
- Lead complex problem-solving teams to perform root cause analysis of supplier quality failures, particularly related to product and/or processes. Ability to decide on corrective actions for supplier quality problems and to analyze failures for prevention of non-conforming material.
