Job Title: Lead Meat Cutter Department: Meat and Seafood Job Region: Oregon / SW Washington Reports To: Meat and Seafood Manager Exemption Status: Non-Exempt Requirements: As a retail grocer, we operate 7 days/week and 365 days/year. In-store positions may include evening, weekend, and holiday shifts. Must complete and maintain any required food and work safety trainings/certifications.

About the role: Processes all cuts of beef, lamb and pork products and is responsible for ordering and maintaining production schedule. Provides exceptional customer service and contributes to a positive and collaborative team environment.

Position Responsibilities:

• Wraps, weighs and prices meat and seafood products according to department policy, dating and regulations (including tare weights and COOL Act).
• Ensures meat and seafood items are cut, trimmed, and processed to company standards.
• Orders meat products based on anticipated sales and seasonal needs; maintains appropriate inventory levels and professional vendor relationships.
• Stocks, rotates and faces cases; adheres to merchandising standards, category schematics, quality and expiration dates.
• Maintains awareness of industry trends, promotions and events; supports weekly ads and holiday plans.
• Assesses production needs and creates production schedules; maintains production levels and updates production guide.
• Guides the work of back-up meat cutters and other department staff, prioritizing and assigning tasks, training staff, and ensuring quality standards are met.
• Maintains department conditions, including appearance, cleanliness, signage and service levels.
• Receives and unloads merchandise; checks quality and quantity; communicates issues to management and merchandising teams.
• Assists customers with product selection and shares product knowledge; makes recommendations based on customer needs.
• Demonstrates familiarity with products in the department, including terminology, cuts, uses, and labeling; committed to ongoing learning.
• Adheres to department compliance with organic standards where applicable.
• Completes customer special orders thoroughly and follows through as needed.
• Maintains accurate pricing and signage that meet merchandising standards.
• Follows company procedures for processing invoices, transfers and credits.
• Handles damaged and spoiled product per company policy.
• Maintains organization and cleanliness of back stock areas.
• May participate in inventory, events or holiday planning.
• Notifies department manager of issues affecting customer service, safety, productivity or security.
• Tools and Equipment Used: baler, hand truck, POS, kitchen equipment (e.g., blast chiller, grill, knives, oven, slicers, grinder, scales) and standard office equipment.
• Physical demands:
  Medium/Heavy work level; frequently on feet with standing/walking; occasional sitting; may climb stairs, step stools or ladders; reaches and uses hands and wrists.
• Performs other tasks as assigned.

Notes on

Physical Requirements:

Medium/Heavy means the ability to occasionally lift up to 100 pounds with team lift and frequently lift, push, pull, or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Team lifts encouraged for objects over 50 pounds.
