Student Support & School Climate
Reports To
Building Principal
Contract
Teacher Contract (Certified) plus annual stipend of $10,000 paid in December and May each school year.
Position Summary
The Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) for Student Support & School Climate serves as a teacher leader responsible for coordinating school wide behavior systems, supporting student interventions, coaching staff in effective classroom management, and strengthening a positive school culture.
This position is designed to build staff capacity rather than replace classroom teachers in managing student behavior. The TOSA collaborates with administrators, counselors, teachers, families, and support staff to improve student outcomes while maintaining a safe, orderly, and supportive learning environment.
The TOSA will maintain a flexible schedule that includes direct student support, teacher coaching, data analysis, intervention coordination, and classroom support as assigned by the principal.
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Valid Arizona teaching certificate
- Minimum of five (5) years successful classroom teaching experience
- Demonstrated effectiveness in classroom management
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Preferred:
- Master’s degree
- Leadership experience (Instructional Coach, Team Lead, PLC Facilitator, Department Chair, MTSS Lead, etc.)
- Experience with MTSS, Restorative Practices, or Positive Behavior Supports
- Experience facilitating professional learning
Essential Responsibilities
Student Support
- Coordinate Tier I and Tier II behavior supports.
- Monitor students with frequent behavioral concerns.
- Assist in developing intervention plans.
- Facilitate restorative conversations when appropriate.
- Help students develop problem-solving and self-regulation skills.
Teacher Support
- Coach teachers in effective classroom management.
- Model classroom management strategies.
- Conduct non-evaluative classroom observations.
- Provide follow-up coaching and resources.
- Assist new teachers with behavior routines and expectations.
School wide Systems
- Assist in implementing school wide behavior expectations.
- Coordinate school wide behavior initiatives.
- Analyze discipline and attendance data.
- Identify trends and recommend interventions.
- Support school climate improvement efforts.
Collaboration
- Participate in MTSS meetings.
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, special education staff, and administration.
- Communicate with families regarding intervention plans as directed.
- Coordinate student support meetings.
Professional Learning
- Provide professional development related to:
- Classroom management
- De-escalation strategies
- Restorative practices
- Positive behavior supports
- Student engagement
Additional Duties
- Assist administration with supervision during high-need times.
- Coordinate behavior documentation systems.
- Support crisis response when needed.
- Perform other duties related to student support as assigned by the principal.
