Senior Lab Assistant

Job Description Requirement / Must Have

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities efficiently.
• Ability to retain and apply learned procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to interact with coworkers and internal and external customers with courtesy and respect.
• Ability to follow PPE requirements and laboratory safety regulations.

• No prior work experience required.
• Experience in laboratory or medical environment preferred.
• Medical assistant training helpful.
• Coursework in math and science preferred.

• Sort and receive specimens within the department.
• Perform routine instrument maintenance on designated equipment.
• Centrifuge specimens and prepare samples for testing.
• Print labels and record data such as temperature logs.
• Store and retrieve specimens as required.
• Prepare reagents and media as needed.
• Build worklists and aliquot specimens into sample containers.
• Inspect specimens for clots and fibrin and perform slide preparation and inoculation.
• Perform assigned quality assurance and quality control duties.
• Resolve pending lists and locate missing samples.
• Decontaminate work areas and dispose of biohazardous materials properly.
• Perform weekly radioactive wipe tests.
• Maintain department records and files.
• Change gas cylinders as required.
• Use laboratory computer systems and operate PCs.
• Complete required training and competency checklists.

• Basic knowledge of laboratory procedures.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently in a structured environment.

• Specimen handling and preparation.
• Laboratory equipment operation.
• Data recording and documentation.
• Quality assurance and quality control support.
• Safety and compliance adherence.
• Basic computer proficiency.

• Medical assistant training preferred.
• Math and science coursework preferred.
