As a Transmission System Operator, you will monitor internal and external system conditions, support safe and efficient system performance, issue switching orders and clearances, coordinate restoration activities, and maintain accurate information needed for operational decisions and customer billing.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced transmission operations professional who can make sound decisions under pressure, communicate clearly, manage multiple tasks, and support the reliability of critical electric infrastructure.

Schedule & Work Environment

  • This role works a rotating 12-hour shift schedule (Dupont Schedule) that includes weekends, holidays, and vacation/sick leave coverage.
  • The position requires continuous use of multiple CRTs and the ability to manage multiple concurrent operational tasks.

What You'll Do

As a Transmission System Operator, you will play a key role in supporting the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of GSOC's assigned transmission system responsibilities.

You will:

  • Monitor real-time transmission system conditions and support reliable operation of the high-voltage transmission system.
  • Operate the Energy Control System to detect and help avert station overloads, equipment damage, and voltage fluctuations.
  • Maintain and enhance system stability by monitoring weather, system conditions, telecommunications, metering, and related operational data.
  • Perform contingency planning and initiate corrective actions when system, telecommunications, or metering conditions are outside expected parameters.
  • Plan, analyze, authorize, and control scheduled operation of system equipment to support reliability, maintenance completion, and coordination of inter-company resources.
  • Write and issue switching orders and clearances on network and non-network devices within GSOC's area of responsibility.
  • Perform real-time data quality assurance and initiate corrective actions to support accurate and timely operational information.
  • Authorize, schedule, and dispatch field resources to support repairs to faulted equipment.
  • Direct isolation of system failures and support safe, efficient restoration of power to members.
  • Perform fault analysis to verify that problems have been safely cleared.
  • Represent member and transmission interests in coordination with external agencies and partner organizations.
  • Prepare oral and written presentations and reports that keep leadership informed of trends, system activities, and potential impacts to members or the public.
  • This role also carries authority and accountability for reliability-related actions, including actions required to preserve Bulk Electric System integrity or correct generation capacity deficiencies in accordance with applicable operating requirements.

What You Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree is preferred.
  • Ideally 6+ years of transmission operations or construction experience, including approximately 2+ years of control center-related experience.
  • Sound decision-making ability under stressful and time-sensitive operating conditions.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly in real-time operations settings.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while continuously monitoring multiple CRTs and system information sources.
  • AC/DC theory, blueprint reading, Excel, and Microsoft Word experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Transmission Operations Experience

  • Experience monitoring or supporting high-voltage transmission systems in a real-time operations environment.
  • Experience with switching orders, clearances, scheduled equipment operations, outage restoration, and field resource coordination.
  • Experience supporting fault analysis, contingency planning, system performance monitoring, or real-time data quality assurance.
