Job Description

This is a pivotal role in our company that reports directly to the owners. We are looking for someone whose work ethic is strong and leads by example with a consistent positive attitude. This is displayed through strategic, analytical thinking, having a willingness to work collaboratively as a team and maintain a high degree of attention to detail, balancing all of that with solid time management skills.

The Controller will manage the distribution of work to all office staff. They will oversee all financial aspects of the company, ensuring a high level of accuracy & efficiency. A strong background in accounting or finance within the construction industry is essential.

Job Responsibilities
  • Manage day-to-day, monthly, and year end closing processes of operations of the Accounting and Project Coordinating Departments. Collaborate with company’s CPA on annual review and income tax returns
  • Manage and ensure a detailed understanding of weekly, monthly, quarterly, & annual payroll related processes and payments, including payroll tax returns and liabilities
  • Manage and comply with local, state and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings including the preparation of W-2 and 1099 forms
  • Support compliance with prevailing wage and certified payroll
  • Prepare and file applicable sales/use and other taxes as required in multiple states
  • Manage cash flow by preparing monthly invoicing for clients
  • Produce financial statements in accordance with GAAP, including the Work-in-Progress schedule
  • Maintain the company’s chart of accounts: perform account reconciliation of all accounts, making necessary journal entry adjustments
  • Manage all external audits such as annual general liability premium audit, workers compensation premium audit, project specific sales/use tax audits, owner/project specific contract audits
  • Assess ongoing training needs of office staff and work with the HR Department to recommend or provide direct training to meet those needs
  • Handle ad-hoc tasks to serve the requirements of internal and external clients
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • Minimum of 10 years of accounting experience, including 5 years of experience specifically as a Controller in the construction industry.
Skills Required
  • Excellent working knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook 365
  • Sage 100 Accounting Software a plus
  • Working knowledge of Paychex Payroll system
