Accountant II - Central Services

The Pima County Department of Finance & Risk Management is looking for a skilled, motivated professional accountant II to join their Financial Control & Reporting (FC&R) Division. Pima County offers many great benefits and upon successful completion of your probationary period, our department offers an alternative work schedule as well as telecommuting, up to two days per week. The FC&R Division is responsible for compiling, issuing, and reviewing accurate and timely interim and year-end financial reports and note disclosures according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for inclusion in the County's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.

What you'll do:

  • Maintain and analyze general ledger accounts for accuracy and facilitate the month and year-end close.
  • Perform accounting activities related to capital assets, including recording, tracking, reconciling, and analyzing capital asset transactions and balances.
  • Assist with the review and reconciliation of capital asset accounts and ensure transactions are properly recorded in accordance with applicable accounting policies and GAAP.
  • Assess current practices and procedures and propose recommendations for improvements, if needed.
  • Ensure proper accounting methods and policies, accuracy and compliance within the department and the County.
  • Perform ad-hoc reports, projects and other tasks as assigned.

  • Experience with capital asset accounting, including recording, tracking, reconciling and/or reporting capital assets.

  • Reviews, reconciles, and analyzes financial transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with County policies and applicable regulations;
  • Maintains and reconciles general ledger accounts, resolving discrepancies and ensuring proper classification of financial data;
  • Prepares financial schedules, reports, and supporting documentation for audits, grant reporting, and internal use;
  • Analyzes financial data and transactions to identify errors, trends, and variances requiring adjustment or correction;
  • Assists in monitoring expenditures, revenues, and budget activity to support financial tracking and compliance;
  • Supports grant-related accounting activities, including tracking expenditures and preparing documentation for reporting and audits;
  • Prepares adjusting entries and ensures proper recording of financial transactions in accordance with established procedures;
  • Participates in audit preparation by organizing records, preparing documentation, and responding to audit inquiries;
  • Provides technical assistance and guidance to departmental staff on accounting processes and financial system usage;
  • Performs research and resolves moderately complex accounting issues in coordination with senior accounting staff.
