Research Program Administration Officer II Position Highlights

Pharmacology is seeking a Research Program Administration Officer II to oversee coordination of the Tribal Community Engagement program at the American Indian Research Center for Health (AIRCH). The selected individual will be responsible for coordinating field activities, regulatory compliance, writing grant proposals/publications, travel and event coordination, recruitment, and mentoring and supporting trainees. The successful candidate will be innovative and highly motivated.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Coordinate day-to-day project operations for the American Indian Research Center for Health, including administrative reporting, compliance, and communications, and support the outreach program team.
  • Support the center director on All of Us/NIH committees and Tribal engagement team meetings and coordinate Tribal partner outreach and education activities.
  • Review funding opportunities for the AIRCH team and Tribal partners and recommend options for consideration.
  • Prepare cultural competency training and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and deliver onboarding for new program hires.
  • Serve as the primary trainer for program-specific systems.
  • Administer skills assessments for program staff and document results.
  • Guide the work of work-study students and AIRCH student workers, and coordinate deliverables with external consultants, to meet program deadlines and milestones.
  • Assist the principal investigator with evaluating research program measures using established metrics and key performance indicators to track progress.
  • Draft and submit progress reports and other reports required by the principal investigator.
  • Make scheduling and workflow decisions for the principal investigator's area, including approving student worker time off and managing coverage.
  • Facilitate communication with key program stakeholders, including NIH, UAHS research administration, community partners, and research investigators and staff.
  • Plan center ceremonies and activities in coordination with the principal investigator.
  • Provide administrative support for outreach and recruitment of undergraduate students interested in program-related fields.
  • Schedule trainees for journal clubs and training activities and resolve trainee scheduling and participation issues.
  • Identify training and conference opportunities for trainees and coordinate related travel.
  • Serve as a liaison to partner departments in support of grant objectives and represent the program at interdepartmental meetings.
  • Coordinate research program events and logistics with principal investigators, the business office, and student trainees, including winter and summer programs and course-specific meetings.
  • Process program purchases and coordinate vendor communications.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for the principal investigator and maintain documentation for NIH annual reporting.
  • Must be able to travel frequently in-state, but also nationally for conferences/meetings.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of Indigenous research regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge in principles of research ethics.
  • Ability to independently initiate, plan, prioritize, and complete work assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge and experience with Indigenous cultural and ceremonial practices.
  • Knowledge and ability to organize, coordinate, and manage logistics, planning, and execution of team activities and projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, collaborate, and influence decision-making with university management, leadership, and other key stakeholders.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative working relationships with colleagues, university leadership, and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with governmental, academic, Tribal, and community agencies.
  • Ability to deliver effective, persuasive presentations and anticipate audience questions, concerns, and informational needs.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, effectively prioritizing competing deadlines, resources, and responsibilities.
