YOUTH DEVELOPMENT DRIVER JOB DESCRIPTION

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Driver creates a positive and supporting atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, while providing safe and reliable transportation to and from program sites in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Mulcahy/City YMCA, 5085 SNogales Hwy, Tucson, AZ 85706

Responsibilities
  • Drives safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state and local laws.
  • Uses problem solving skills to make quick decisions to recognize and evaluate potential dangers.
  • Checks assigned vehicle(s) and surrounding area for hazardous conditions and takes the appropriate actions to resolve any concerns to ensure a safe environment for all.
  • Keeps first aid supplies fully stocked.
  • Completes thorough before and after trip checks each day and records all information, such as gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms.
  • Ensures vehicle rules are announced to all passengers and are followed.
  • Continuously monitors transportation areas for hazardous or unsafe conditions. Immediately reports all hazardous or unsafe conditions to supervisors and takes appropriate action when appropriate.
  • Engages in active listening with program participants, volunteers, and staff in order to build relationships; when the opportunity presents itself, goes above and beyond to resolve situations immediately.
  • Effectively communicates unusual situations and unresolved issues to the appropriate member of leadership, ensuring the best interest of all parties involved.
  • Initiates appropriate actions to maintain safety, cleanliness, and organization throughout assigned vehicles.
  • Cleans out vehicle(s) each day.
  • Effectively engages with diverse groups of people with different abilities and backgrounds.
  • Successfully completes and passes periodic skill assessments and drills.
  • Knows, understands, and consistently follows and enforces all YMCA procedures and policies, including transportation rules, safety guidelines, facility access procedures and policies.
  • Is familiar with the mission statement and core values of the YMCA. Models the core values while working and communicating with others.
  • Maintains all job-related certifications current and on file.
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of consumers by maintaining professional boundaries, completing required abuse risk management training, following procedures for high‑risk activities and supervision, reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations, and adhering to mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Attends and remains current on all mandatory training and staff meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • At least twenty‑five (25) years of age.
  • At least one (1) year of work experience as a bus driver preferred.
  • Possess and maintain appropriate class drivers license.
  • Maintain driving criteria required for company vehicular insurance.
  • Knowledge of the rules/guidelines related to commercial passenger vehicles.
  • Certifications required within thirty (30) days of hire: CPR/AED and First Aid for Adults, Children, and Infants.
  • Desire and ability to work with youth.
  • Current Arizona fingerprint clearance card.
  • Positive track record of building relationships with parents, youth, volunteers, and staff.
  • Demonstrate driving skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • Completion of YMCA’s online training upon date of hire.
