This role is key to ensuring accurate and competitive bids while maintaining strong relationships with clients. The RoleThe Estimator will be responsible for preparing comprehensive cost estimates for steel projects and presenting them to clients, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project requirements. Success in this role means delivering precise estimates, supporting business growth, and contributing to the company’s reputation for reliability and quality. The Estimator will work closely with vendors, clients, and internal teams, including project management and operations.
ResponsibilitiesPrepare detailed cost estimates by analyzing construction drawings, specifications, and related documents.
Identify labor, material, and time requirements for projects.
Obtain pricing from vendors for special items and materials.
Compute total project costs and resolve any discrepancies with vendors or clients.
Present estimates clearly, using both numerical and descriptive information.
Prepare reports summarizing trends, project deviations, and special analysis.
Maintain technical knowledge by attending workshops and reviewing industry publications.
Stay informed about steel industry trends and general economic conditions.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
1–3+ years of experience as an Estimator or Project Manager in structural and miscellaneous steel construction.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and industry software; experience with Fab Suite and Bluebeam a plus.
Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Detail-oriented, analytical, and able to work independently while collaborating effectively with teams.
Strong problem-solving skills and decision-making ability.
Prior experience with employee-owned company environments.
Exposure to larger-scale or complex steel projects.
