Position: Field Engineer Internship- Summer 2026
KE&G Construction, Inc. is a 100 percent employee-owned heavy civil construction company based in Southern Arizona, with more than 54 years of experience building the infrastructure that supports our communities. With close to 500 employees across seven divisions, KE&G provides interns the chance to learn alongside experienced professionals while gaining hands on exposure to active projects.

Interns observe how major construction projects develop from start to finish, including roadways, bridges, utilities, and site development, all within a collaborative, team focused environment. The range of projects and strong commitment to quality make this a great opportunity for students who want to build practical skills and explore a long-term career in construction.

Key Responsibilities

* Assist project teams with field coordination, scheduling support, and basic cost tracking

* Help track quantities, materials, and daily production

* Maintain project documentation and progress records

* Review plans and specifications to understand scope and material needs

* Coordinate with suppliers to help ensure timely delivery of materials

* Support the team in identifying and addressing routine field issues

* Follow all safety standards on job sites

Qualifications

* Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineer, Environmental Engineer or a related field

* Available for full time work during the summer, approximately May through August

* Willing to travel or temporarily relocate based on project needs

* Able to move throughout active construction sites in various weather and site conditions

* Motivated, dependable, and eager to learn

* Strong communication and teamwork skills

* Organized, detail oriented, and safety focused

* Demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and accountability

Internship Details

* Winter session available for returning interns, lasting 2 to 3 weeks

* Paid full time position, 40 hours per week

* Possible benefits include relocation assistance if needed, company truck, phone, laptop, and ESOP accrual

* 80% of the program is spent in the field, 20% in the office

* Weekly one on one mentor meetings for feedback and development

* Potential pathway to full time employment after graduation

* Placement opportunities in Sierra Vista or Tucson

* Opportunity to select a preferred division for your experience

Roadway and public works construction, including paving, concrete, grading, bridges, and pedestrian features

Water and wastewater systems, pipelines, pump and booster stations, repairs, and maintenance

Site preparation, earthwork, grading, and installation of essential infrastructure for new projects

Southern Arizona

Heavy civil construction for public and private clients, including new construction and improvements

JOC

Roadway and flood control projects delivered through job order contracts, paving, repairs, striping, and sidewalks

Mining

Construction services for mining operations, including earthwork, concrete, piping, ponds, and reclamation work

Commercial

Tenant improvements, renovations, and interior build outs for commercial facilities

* Ability to lift up to 50lbs and navigate active construction sites.

* Work both in office and field environments; outdoors in varied weather conditions.
