Construction Superintendent - Hospital / Federal Projects

Experienced Construction Superintendent to lead on-site execution of renovation, demolition, and new construction projects for federal clients. The Superintendent will ensure safe, compliant, on-time, and on-budget delivery while coordinating with stakeholders including hospital facility staff, USACE, NAVFAC, subcontractors, and inspectors. Ideal candidates will have strong safety credentials (EM 385, OSHA 30), proven experience on hospital or healthcare projects, and familiarity with federal contracting requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day supervision of on-site construction activities, including demolition, renovation, and new work, ensuring adherence to project plans and specifications.
- Coordinate and lead subcontractors, craft personnel, and vendors to maintain productivity, schedule, and quality standards.
- Implement and enforce site safety programs in compliance with EM 385, OSHA 30 requirements, and project-specific safety plans; conduct safety briefings and inspections.
- Manage project schedules, track progress, and communicate schedule impacts and recovery plans to project management and client representatives.
- Maintain quality control and perform inspections to ensure work meets contract documents, codes, and hospital-specific infection control requirements.
- Serve as primary on-site liaison with VA/Veterans Affairs representatives, USACE, NAVFAC, hospital facility staff, and other stakeholders; coordinate access, shutdowns, and patient-sensitive activities.
- Prepare daily reports, progress documentation, RFIs, non-conformance reports, field directives, and as-built notes; review and submit timesheets and material logs.
- Control site logistics, material deliveries, equipment staging, and site security to minimize disruption and protect critical hospital operations.
- Monitor costs and labor productivity; identify and escalate potential cost or schedule risks and propose mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with federal contracting provisions, environmental controls, permits, and inspection requirements; support audits and client inspections.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on construction superintendent experience, with demonstrated leadership on renovation, demolition, and healthcare/hospital projects.
- Proven experience working on Veterans Affairs projects and familiarity with VA processes and facility operations strongly preferred.
- Current EM-385 competent person training OR OSHA 30 certification required (both preferred).
- Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, reading plans and specifications, QA/QC practices, and construction safety standards.
- Background coordinating work in active hospital environments and adherence to infection control risk assessment (ICRA) protocols preferred.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to coordinate with VA facility staff, inspectors, subcontractors, and project teams.
- Proficient with construction documentation tools (daily reports, RFIs, submittals) and basic computer skills (MS Office, scheduling software).
- Valid driver's license; ability to pass background checks and obtain site-specific security clearances if required.
- Construction trade certification, superintendent training, or relevant degree preferred.
