This series exists to perform a broad scope of high level transportation duties and/or supervisor responsibility. Serves as a senior technician performing a variety of journey-level work related to highway construction activities. Positions will be assigned based on experience and qualifications listed below.
Job Duties- Transportation Construction Technician 1 (Grade 17)
Entry level position. Scope of duties include inspection of work on highway construction projects, techniques to ensure compliance with applicable standards, specifications, and public safety, use of specialized software and Google applications for correspondence/measurements/temperatures/etc., reading and interpreting plans, contract documents, specifications and standard drawings, performing field tests, sample materials and completing sample transmittals, calculating areas of geometric and irregular shapes, and attending safety meetings, partnering meetings, and trainings.
- Transportation Construction Technician 2 (Grade 18)
Intermediate level position. Scope of duties includes inspecting highway construction to assure compliance, examining materials, surface conditions, tracking, structural features, performing field material tests for quality assurance, inspecting and examining engineering project records, field notes, computations, and other documentation, researching and interpreting MVD Policy, Arizona Revised Statutes, Arizona Administrative Code, and regulations, consulting with engineers, ensuring conformance to specifications and plans, consulting manuals, rulebook codes, or regulations, recording all workflow, and attending training and safety meetings.
- Transportation Construction Technician 3 (Grade 19)
Full journey classification. Responsibilities include performing a broad scope of high level duties such as inspecting highway construction work for compliance, documenting and quantifying lists, consulting with engineers, ensuring conformance to specifications and construction plans, attending meetings and training sessions, performing field tests, consulting manuals/speeches/specifications/drawings/regulations, recording work history, and inspecting project records.
- Transportation Construction Technician 1: Preferred candidate has 1 year of job‑related construction experience including principles and practices of civil engineering, construction inspection methods, materials testing procedures, Manual of Uniform Traffic Control for work zones, operation of equipment, and reading of construction documents, maps, and plans.
- Transportation Construction Technician 2: Preferred candidate has 2 years of job‑related construction experience with similar competencies as for Technician 1.
- Transportation Construction Technician 3: Preferred candidate has 3 years of job‑related construction experience with similar competencies as for Technician 1.
- Transportation Construction Technician I – One year construction related experience.
- Transportation Construction Technician II – Two years construction related experience.
- Transportation Construction Technician III – Three years construction related experience.
American Concrete Institute and Arizona Technical Testing Institute Certification required within 1 year of hire date.
A medical/physical evaluation is required prior to appointment.
Valid Arizona driver’s license required.
