  • Spread, level, lute, and rake hot mix asphalt to proper grade and thickness.
  • Assist the paving crew in achieving a smooth, uniform mat and clean joints.
  • Handwork around structures including manholes, valve boxes, catch basins, curbs, sidewalks, and driveways.
  • Ensure proper transitions and tie-ins between existing pavement and new asphalt.
  • Assist with asphalt patching, repairs, and finishing work.
  • Operate hand tools including asphalt rakes, lutes, shovels, tampers, and plate compactors.
  • Communicate effectively with paving equipment operators to maintain paving quality and production.
  • Perform pre- and post-job cleanup, including removal of excess material and debris.
  • Help load, unload, and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Participate in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses.
  • Report equipment issues, hazards, or unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Foreman or Superintendent.
Qualifications
  • Previous asphalt paving experience preferred (1-3 years), but training may be provided for motivated candidates.
  • Experience working around heavy construction equipment.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
