Adjunct Faculty – Dental Hygiene
Salary: $1061 per load hour (most clinical courses are 2.8 load hours)

Must be willing to teach in person; faculty may also teach in virtual, online, or hybrid modalities.
Pima Community College’s Dental Hygiene Department is currently accepting applications to expand the pool of qualified Dental Hygiene Faculty to teach clinical/laboratory dental hygiene courses for the 2026 – 2027 academic year and beyond. Candidates may be hired and assigned to specific courses or may be included in a pool for potential future assignments based on enrollment.
Part‑time/temporary faculty positions offer flexible hours and the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals. Instructors will employ active learning strategies, online resources and provide equitable instruction.
Duties & Responsibilities- Clinical Instruction & Supervision
- Provide direct supervision and hands‑on guidance to students during clinical sessions, ensuring safe, ethical, and evidence‑based dental hygiene practice.
- Demonstrate and instruct students on clinical skills, instrumentation techniques, patient assessment, treatment planning, and proper ergonomic positioning.
- Oversee student interactions with patients to ensure a high standard of patient care and absolute adherence to infection control, OSHA, and HIPAA guidelines.
- Assessment & Feedback
- Evaluate student clinical performance, competency progression, and critical thinking skills using established program rubrics and grading criteria.
- Provide constructive and objective feedback to students during and after patient care to foster skill development and professional growth.
- Follow established protocols for attendance, grading, and documentation of student clinical progress.
- Professionalism & Collaboration
- Maintain a supportive, professional, and positive learning environment in the clinic that encourages student confidence and success.
- Work collaboratively with the Clinical Coordinator, Lead Faculty, and clinic staff to ensure consistency in calibration and program standards.
- Maintain active licensure, clinical competency, and currency with modern dental hygiene technologies, materials, and practices.
- Associate’s degree (or higher) in Dental Hygiene from a CODA‑Accredited program
- Current Arizona Dental Hygiene License
- Current CPR‑BLS Certification
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical dental hygiene practice
- Clinical Expertise:
Strong foundation in comprehensive dental hygiene care, including advanced instrumentation, digital radiography, periodontal therapy, and patient care planning. - Clinical Mentorship:
Demonstrated ability or strong desire to guide, mentor, and support students through the anxieties and challenges of real‑patient clinical experiences. - Objective Evaluation:
Ability to assess student clinical performance fairly and accurately based on set program standards, rather than personal preference. - Communication &
Collaboration:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with a diverse population of students, patients, faculty, and staff.
