Position Highlights

The BIO5 Institute at the University of Arizona is seeking program mentors (KEYS Crew) for the KEYS 2026 Internship Program. The KEYS Program is a 7-week research internship for Arizona high school students, ages 16-18 years old, from June 1, 2026 - July 17, 2026. We are looking for multiple summer full-time positions, working as near-peer mentors to provide programmatic support in a wide variety of areas.

KEYS Crew will provide assistance with the 2026 program's implementation and serve as a vital resource of information while supporting the program interns. The ideal candidates will be excellent communicators, with a strong understanding of scientific research environments. These candidates will have the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of administrative, scientific, and academic groups. A background in science is a plus!

Part-time availability from March 2026 - May 2026, for program training and certifications. Full Time availability (40 hours a week) including weekend availability from June 2026
- July 20, 2026.


BIO5 transcends traditional research models by promoting intensive interdisciplinary collaboration with individuals from many departments and colleges within the University of Arizona. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide near-peer mentorship and supervision to program participants.
  • Assist program staff with a wide variety of assigned tasks. Tasks assessed by supervisor.
  • Responsible for participant lab check in visits.
  • Provide assistance with participant homework assignments.
  • Supervise program participants during their lunch breaks and social activities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
  • Schedule requirements:
    Part-time availability from March 30, 2026-May 29, 2026, for program training and certifications. Full Time availability (40 hours a week) including weekend availability from May 30, 2026-July 20, 2026.
  • Minimum age-18 years old by date of hire (March 30, 2026)
