Job Overview
Under the Education Director for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe’s Education Division, the incumbent will engage in a year-long immersion and practicum on the teaching and learning of Yaqui language, culture and history. Teachers will be responsible for mastering the basic principles of linguistics, which will inform their primary duty of becoming certified Yaqui Language Instructors who will assist in the development of companion curricula for PreK-3 students towards the larger goal of Yaqui language revitalization.
Teachers will also be responsible for mastering the principles of Project Based Learning and design project-based learning modules that apply their ongoing learning in Yaqui language, culture, and history to pre-determined curricula and thematic units. Teachers will work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends, to allow for authentic immersion opportunities to address domains of learning outside of the workplace. Teachers are contracted employees who will operate on a yearlong academic calendar and will not be permitted vacation outside of designated windows of time as assigned by the project.
- Interweaving Yaqui and Tribal knowledge and understandings into curriculum and lessons;
- 21st-century schools, including the ability to make proficient use of the Microsoft suite and other technology, online platforms and tools;
- DHHS/Head Start/Arizona Department of Education academic standards and benchmarks (3-year-old through 3rd grade);
- Teaching strategies for diverse learners;

- Early childhood and elementary education methods and practices;
- Applicable federal, state and local laws, rules, and regulations;
- Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn.
