DEFINITION:
The Principal serves as the instructional leader and chief administrator of the school to which they are assigned. The Principal is responsible for implementing and managing the policies, regulations, and procedures and is accountable to the district superintendent and receives staff advise/counsel from the leaders of all district departments. Achieving academic excellence requires that the Principal work collaboratively with all members of the school staff and communicate effectively with parents and members of the community.
Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for planning, curriculum development, program evaluation, extracurricular activities, personnel management, financial management, emergency procedures, resource scheduling, and facilities operations. Additionally, the Principal has functional accountability for articulating their school's educational program and providing means for the orderly progression of students through the school system and to project them self as the authentic and credible key figure in their school.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

TASKS:
Collaboratively develop and/or implement a shared district/school vision and mission
Collect and use data to identify goals, assess organizational effectiveness, and promote organizational learning
Create and implement plans to achieve goals
Promote continuous and sustainable improvement of student learning and instructional practices
Monitor and evaluate progress and revise improvement plans
Nurture and sustain a positive school culture of networked improvement communities through collaboration, trust, learning and high expectations
Implement a comprehensive, rigorous and coherent curricular program aligned to adopted Arizona standards and district coherence framework and instructional model
Ensure quality instruction and professional learning through effective implementation of the teacher evaluation system
Implement assessment and accountability systems within a balanced assessment framework to monitor student progress
Develop the instructional and leadership capacity of staff, as well as develop personal goals for leadership and learning
Monitor and evaluate the impact of the instructional program and maximize the quality of first instruction
Promote the utilization of appropriate and effective technologies that enhance learning
Monitor and evaluate the management and operational systems in the school
Obtain, allocate, align and effectively utilize human, fiscal and other resources
Promote and protect the safety and welfare of students and staff to include safe and orderly as well as student relations
Ensure teacher and organizational time is focused to support quality instruction and student learning (scheduling, duty assignments, assessment coordination, etc.)
Promote understanding and appreciate of the community's culture, including coordination/supervision of athletics, extracurricular activities and events; attendance at and support of parent organization meetings and events, etc.
Build and sustain positive relationships with families and caregivers (visibility, accessibility, verbal and written communication, timely responsiveness); and relationships with community partners
Ensure a system of accountability for each student's academic and social success
Advocate for children and families by facilitating access to school, district and community resources
Promote equity and ensure that individual student needs inform all aspects of schooling (facilitation of Special Education, 504, ELL, Gifted, McKinney-Vento, etc.)
Assess, analyze and anticipate emerging trends and initiatives in order to adapt leadership strategies
Consider and evaluate the potential moral, legal and ethical consequences of decision-making
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge of teaching and learning or instruction and curriculum
Knowledge of talent management
Knowledge of district policies and procedures including operations
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff and community
Skill in analyzing data and thinking strategically and comprehensively
Ability to respond to emergency and problem situations, dealing constructively with conflict to reach effective resolutions
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is performed in an indoor environment. Work requires frequent sitting, standing, bending, repetitive motion, vision to monitor, and may require some lifting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in Education, Education Leadership or related field
