Definition

The High School Principal serves as the instructional and operational leader of the high school, responsible for planning, directing, implementing, and supervising all academic programs and school operations. The principal ensures a safe, inclusive, and high-performing learning environment that supports student achievement and aligns with district goals and community expectations. The role requires visionary leadership, a student-centered belief system, effective management, and a strong commitment to continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Plans and implements comprehensive instructional programs aligned with district goals and state standards.
  • Monitors and evaluates classroom instruction for content, rigor, and student engagement; recommends improvements in materials, strategies, and instructional delivery.
  • Guides teachers in integrating effective instructional strategies and evidence-based practices.
  • Leads and monitors curriculum implementation, instructional innovation, and program evaluation.
  • Analyzes student performance data to drive instructional decisions and improve outcomes through a continuous improvement process.
  • Supports college and career readiness initiatives, Advanced Placement, Career and Technical Education (CTE), and dual enrollment programs.
  • Facilitates professional development aligned with school improvement goals.
  • Establishes and sustains a positive, safe, and inclusive school climate.
  • Investigates student misconduct and determines appropriate prevention and discipline strategies.
  • Investigates concerns raised by parents, students, staff, and community members.
  • Promotes restorative practices and proactive behavior supports.
  • Ensures access and opportunity for all students.
  • Ensures compliance with district policies, state regulations, and federal laws.
  • Supervises and evaluates certified and classified staff.
  • Ensures balanced assignment of curricular and co-curricular duties between administrators.
  • Recruits, hires, mentors, and retains high-quality staff.
  • Develops leadership capacity among assistant principals, department chairs, and teacher leaders.
  • Conducts formal and informal performance evaluations and provides actionable feedback.
  • Plans, directs, supervises, and evaluates operational and facilities requirements to ensure effective delivery of educational programs.
  • Develops, monitors, and evaluates the site budget based on spending patterns and program needs.
  • Oversees administrative procedures and ensures efficient school operations.
  • Ensures campus safety, emergency preparedness, and compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Coordinates scheduling, transportation, food services, athletics, extracurricular activities, and facility use.
  • Attends school and district events regularly.
  • Develops and maintains positive communication systems with staff, families, and community members.
  • Establishes and maintains close contact with parents and community members to support school-based activities.
  • Represents the school at district and community meetings, committees, and conferences.
  • Prepares and submits required reports and communicates school progress to stakeholders

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Education, Educational Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of school administration and instructional best practices.
  • Experience in secondary education leadership preferred.
Required Certifications
  • Valid State Administrative Certification.
  • Valid state teaching certificate/license.
