Assistant Professor of Practice, Recording Studio

The University of Arizona School of Music invites applications for a career‑track, non‑tenure eligible, 12‑month Assistant Professor of Practice specializing in Sound Recording. The position serves as Director of the Jeffrey Haskell Recording Studio, operating and maintaining the studio, collaborating with faculty, staff, and students on professional recordings, teaching current and future courses in recording technologies, and mentoring student interns.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain the Jeffrey Haskell Recording Studio.
  • Collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to create professional recordings.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies.
  • Perform minor repairs.
  • Lecturer for existing and new coursework.
  • Improve and maintain the studio website.
  • Mentor student interns.
  • Produce high‑quality media.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Rapid learning of new equipment and software.
  • Mentorship in audio and video production.
  • Proficiency in video recording and editing.
  • Proficiency with digital workstations:
    Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Reaper, DaVinci Resolve (or equivalent).
Minimum Qualifications
  • Degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience as a recording engineer.
  • Minimum of five years of experience mentoring and instructing students and interns in higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience troubleshooting complex equipment.
