As a career coach, you will offer professional development mentorship to undergraduate business students. You will be joining a team of career coaches who help students identify, research, and realize career goals through personal consultation and programming. You will help students find internship and full-time career opportunities and will guide them through the application and interview process. You will keep up to date with current hiring and employment trends and identify specific skills required for employment and help students obtain these skills.

You will establish relationships with employers to ultimately serve as a liaison between students and employment opportunities. You may take on additional responsibilities as required by the position and the department.
The Eller College offers professional development opportunities to our students at all levels. We craft and execute large- and small- scale events to reach dynamic audiences and provide individualized coaching to help students succeed. We measure performance through student engagement, and student internship and full-time placement rates.

Responsibilities Student Career Coaching and Professional Development Programming
  • Manage a coaching caseload of first and second year students interested in careers in business.
  • Advise individuals and groups regarding experiential learning, facilitate innovative workshops; and lead and advertise the experiential learning resources we offer.
  • Facilitate placement of undergraduate students in positions related to their academic major/career interest.
  • Assist with planning and executing events for students to engage with employers and alumni, including outreach to participants and event logistics (ex. ordering catering and facilities).
  • Collaborate with the top‑ranked academic departments to plan, execute and market experiential learning events and outreach programming (e.g., Career Panels, Case Competitions) regarding professional development and career interest.
  • Conduct outreach to current/prospective students to promote benefits of experiential learning regarding professional development.
  • Assist students by conducting resume/cover letter critiques and job‑search strategies and providing guidance regarding application procedures.
  • Support and/or advise career‑related student clubs and organizations requiring some work outside general business hours.
Employer Relations
  • Collaborate with employers on experiential learning programs and events (e.g., Employer Case Competitions, Career Fairs, Speaker Panels).
  • Gain an understanding of the specific career sectors, including being familiar with the local, national and international companies in the industry and their recruiting practices.
  • Identify employers and follow up to establish relationships and to communicate selection results.
  • Provide assistance for recruitment events and activities.
  • Facilitate up to two workshop sections per semester of a 1‑unit, sophomore level career management course and employ creative ways to engage students on career management and exploration.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Proficient communication skills—both verbal and written.
  • The ability to handle a variety of tasks, prioritize and problem‑solve.
  • PowerPoint, Excel/spreadsheet, and database management skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks with attention to detail, a motivated/enthusiastic work style, and the ability to work in a rapidly changing environment with a broad range of internal and external constituents.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • Up to 1 year of relevant work experience may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1 year of relevant work experience.
  • Work experience in a related field (Accounting, Business Economics, Business Management, Finance, Marketing, MIS/Operations Management) is highly desirable.
  • Preferred corporate or recruiting background.
  • Event coordination (both virtual and in‑person) experience.
