Holds an Alternative Teacher Certificate through the AZ Department of Education. Classified as “Teacher on Contract” for payroll purposes. Must maintain certification while on contract.
Under the direction of the school principal, supports the Diocese of Tucson in its mission to evangelize, catechize, and educate youth within a Catholic School environment. Acts as a minister of the Gospel and Catholic teaching both academically and behaviorally.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Reflect the Catholic mission of the school through speech, actions, and instruction in line with church teachings.
- Demonstrate Gospel values as a member of a faith community and model the teachings of Jesus.
- Participate in and help plan school religious and service activities.
- Lead and participate in daily classroom prayer.
- Plan lessons that meet academic goals and incorporate Catholic religious curriculum.
- Teach with current, thorough knowledge of academic and religious curriculum; communicate effectively and motivate students.
- Teach in online environments as needed, using platforms such as Google Classroom.
- Assess students using methods tied to curriculum objectives, evaluating progress clearly.
- Maintain a consistent disciplinary approach that promotes self‑direction and positive self‑image; set high standards and manage behavior effectively.
- Create a positive, functional learning environment.
- Collaborate with school and diocesan administration; build positive relationships with staff, students, and parents. Attend faculty trainings and meetings promptly.
- Enforce school policies and regulations professionally.
- Maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment in attire and behavior, and follow the school dress code.
- Follow instructions from the principal and perform other duties as assigned.
Demonstrated coordination, manual dexterity, normal mental and visual capabilities, and ability to lift as required in a normal office environment.
Required ActivitiesWalking, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, talking, handling, hearing, carrying, and keyboarding.
Basic Qualifications- Strong commitment to fostering lay leadership in the Roman Catholic Church; if a baptized Catholic, must be a practicing member in full communion.
- Excellent written, oral, public speaking, and presentation skills.
- Strong human relations and interpersonal abilities; self‑starter, organized, and team player.
- Availability for evening and weekend work as necessary; reliable transportation.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in computer technology (word processing, Excel, etc.); maintain confidentiality.
- Flexibility in assessing needs and adapting strategies in a ministerial environment.
- Completed criminal history and background check.
- Professional bearing and clean, neat personal appearance.
- Completed bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Certified by the State of Arizona as a Teacher with renewals per state law.
- Level I of the Diocesan Ministry Certification with renewal every three years.
