Part‑Time Faculty (ESL Instructor)

The Center for English as a Second Language (CESL) at the University of Arizona seeks part‑time faculty to deliver English as a Second Language instruction across a range of CESL programs.

Responsibilities

Teaching Duties:

  • Teach 4 to 19.45 hours a week as assigned.
  • Teach across programs based on availability and established working hours.
  • Hold one office hour per week per class.
  • Submit e‑syllabi for each class.
  • Demonstrate cordial, professional interaction with all faculty, staff, and students.
  • Complete administrative tasks, including attendance recording, student evaluations, announcements, etc.
  • Read and respond to emails promptly during workdays; other duties as assigned, e.g., tutoring, electives, clubs.

Service to CESL:

  • Attend all department meetings and center‑wide events.
  • Be available for observation by teacher trainees, students and guests or others approved by a program coordinator.
  • Participate in required CESL events such as picnics, international festivals, and closing ceremonies (not all events required).
  • Assist with orientation/testing as needed.
  • Be available during the week prior to a session start for training, testing, and orientation duties.
  • Participate in TEFL portfolio training, norming, and marking; OPI training and conduct OPIs as needed; develop CGC materials as required.

Professional Development:

  • Participate in all required departmental trainings.
  • Remain current in professional areas and engage in regular professional development activities.

Evaluation:

  • Comply with evaluation procedures and processes outlined in CESL‑Info / Faculty Performance Evaluation Instructions.
Minimum Qualifications
  • MA in TESL or closely related field.
  • Experience teaching multilingual classes in all areas of English language skills at all levels of proficiency in secondary or higher educational institutions.
  • Proficiency in professional English communication.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience traveling and living abroad.
  • Ability to speak more than one language.
  • PhD in TESL or closely related field.

Pay Rate: $39.00 per hour
