Lab Assistant – Healthcare Professions

Term of Employment: Part‑time as needed, up to 19.5 hours per week, not eligible for benefits.

Salary Range: $15.50 per hour.

Hours: Monday – Thursday, 1:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m.

The Lab Assistant supports instructors in preparing and conducting practical laboratory and classroom activities. Responsibilities include setting up equipment, maintaining supplies, and ensuring adherence to Pima County JTED policies and lab dress code.

• Assist the instructor in preparing the lab in advance.
• Set up laboratory equipment needed for the practicum demonstration rotations.
• Ensure the lab is stocked with necessary supplies, monitor inventory, restock as needed, and keep the instructor informed.

• Work closely with the instructor and students during laboratory practicum.
• Monitor students in the lab, providing assistance and answering questions about clinical skills.
• Read all instructor‑provided guidelines before each lesson.

• Set up classroom equipment and supplies, including copying forms.
• Work closely with the instructor and students during classroom activities.
• Collect, monitor, and file required paperwork.
• Assist with HOSA activities and meetings.
• Attend field trips as a chaperone when needed.
• Assist with CPR; certification as a CPR instructor is required.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

• At least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Currently enrolled in college courses.
• Certification in Medical Assistant, Caregiver, or CNA.
• Current CPR certification or instructor status.
• Proficiency with Google Apps and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Knowledge of electronic medical records.
• Current MMR immunization record (unless born before January 1, 1957).
• Recent negative TB test (within one year).
• Valid IVP fingerprint clearance card or ability to obtain one.

• Ability to read and communicate effectively in English; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of internet use for research purposes.
• Experience using a high‑volume copy machine.

Note: Hiring preference will be given to former JTED Health Care Professions student graduates.
