Position Summary

This position provides academic instruction to elementary, middle school and/or high school students in various academic areas with a primary focus on individualized instruction in accordance with school, state, and accreditation standards and guidelines.

Core Functions

Provides academic instruction to students with a primary focus on individualized instruction in accordance with school, state, and accreditation standards and guidelines.

Performs academic and needs assessments as necessary and ensures students’ progress in relation to goal objectives.

Develops lesson plans and curriculum (unless provided by the school) to ensure educational needs are being met and provides specialized instructional techniques/activities through individual sessions, including the use of online resources and computer software.

Orders appropriate educational material based on needs, manages education plans and provides ongoing support, and maintains/prepares grading, progress reports, individualized education program (IEP), transcripts, and educational summaries.

Provides case management for students, including coordination of transition services as needed, maintains a student behavior management system, and communicates with parents regarding home strategies as appropriate.

Maintains a safe, clean and structured learning environment.

May plan and provide instruction for non-academic classes, including off-campus outings.

When working in a healthcare setting, interacts with nursing, therapists, case management and adjunctive therapies. When in a school setting, interacts with case managers, related service providers, school psychologists, school officials, and others as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field and necessary certification from the Arizona Department of Education.
For non‑clinical settings, certification in English, Social Studies, Science, Math, or Special Education, and certification to teach at the middle and high school levels.
Substitute Teaching certificate for grades K-12 is considered.
1–2 years of experience in a related setting.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, creative thinking, prioritizing and flexible problem solving, and the ability to apply learning principles.
Possession of a valid driver’s license and eligibility for coverage under the company’s auto insurance policy may be required.
For employees at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital or Banner Academy, an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and an Arizona Criminal History Affidavit signed upon hire are required.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
