English Language Development (ELD) Teacher – 2026–2027 School Year

Location: 434 W Lerdo Rd, Tucson, AZ 85706

Start Date: ASAP

Schedule: Full-Time, On-Site

Compensation Range: $44,770. – $50,550.80 (DOE)

Position Overview

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performance K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities. AMS seeks a passionate and culturally responsive English Language Development (ELD) Teacher to provide high-quality language instruction and support for multilingual learners. The ideal candidate will foster English language acquisition while ensuring students have equitable access to rigorous grade‑level content through evidence‑based instructional strategies.

AMS teachers are collaborative professionals who believe all scholars can achieve at high levels through structured instruction, strong classroom culture, and consistent use of data to inform practice.

Key Responsibilities Instruction & Student Achievement
  • Deliver standards‑aligned English Language Development instruction to multilingual learners.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that support English language acquisition across the domains of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Differentiate instruction based on students' English language proficiency levels and individual learning needs.
  • Utilize formative and summative assessment data, including language proficiency data, to guide instructional planning and interventions.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support language development across all content areas.
Classroom Culture & Student Support
  • Establish and maintain a structured, positive, and high‑expectations classroom environment.
  • Implement PBIS and preventative intervention strategies.
  • Support students' academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional growth while fostering confidence in language development.
  • Create an inclusive learning environment that values students' cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Collaboration & Professional Growth
  • Participate in weekly professional development and professional learning communities.
  • Collaborate with grade‑level teams, instructional leaders, and special programs staff to support multilingual learners.
  • Contribute to school‑wide initiatives that promote equitable outcomes for English learners.
Family Engagement
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and language development.
  • Partner with families to support English language acquisition and academic success.
  • Participate in parent‑teacher conferences and school engagement activities.
Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, English, TESOL, Linguistics, or a related field OR
  • Valid Arizona teaching certificate with an ESL/SEI endorsement or other appropriate certification
Additional, Candidates Must
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills.
  • Pass required background checks and obtain an IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Demonstrate commitment to serving Title I and multilingual communities.
  • Exhibit knowledge of second‑language acquisition strategies and best practices for English learners.
  • Show strong analytical skills and enthusiasm for data‑driven instruction.
  • Exhibit collaboration, professionalism, and initiative in a team‑based environment.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary Range: $44,770. – $50,550.80 (DOE)
