Coordinator, Military Education Benefits

As a member of the Military-Connected Benefits and Certifications (MCBC) team, the Military Education Benefits Coordinator supports military-connected students utilizing Veterans Education Benefits and Tuition Assistance. Serving as a School Certifying Official (SCO), the Coordinator provides accurate certification, guidance, and individualized support to ensure students understand their options and confidently make informed decisions about their education benefits.

The Office of the Registrar is responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the academic record. Serving all students, faculty, academic units, and student support functions; the Office is charged with the implementation of academic and student policies and their alignment to state and federal regulations and accreditation standards. The Office strives to be a leader and thought partner in creating efficient processes that are designed in a way that supports student success and service excellence.

This position will allow for flexible/hybrid work arrangements. Some duties can be performed remotely, but others will require an in-person presence on the Tucson, Arizona campus. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • School Certifying Official (SCO) – VA Education Benefits
  • Serve as a School Certifying Official (SCO) responsible for administering VA Education Benefits in compliance with federal regulations.
  • Complete required VA training and apply current policies and procedures to ensure accurate certification.
  • Conduct comprehensive student record reviews throughout the certification lifecycle, including initial certification, tuition and fee reporting, and ongoing enrollment updates.
  • Communicate with VA representatives to resolve issues and provide direct support to students through individual consultations.
  • Accurately report and manage student data in both university systems and VA platforms, supporting several hundred students each term.
  • Student Advising and Benefits Counseling
  • Provide personalized advising to military-affiliated students on the effective use of VA Education Benefits.
  • Educate students on eligibility requirements, benefit options, and university processes to support informed decision-making.
  • Campus Partnerships and Engagement
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with academic advisors, faculty, and campus partners.
  • Support outreach initiatives, including VETS Center orientations and events, to enhance awareness and access to military-connected resources.
  • Professional Development and Compliance
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain and expand knowledge of military education benefits, emerging regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of processes and student service delivery.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of FERPA, data privacy standards, and ethical principles related to working with student records and sensitive information.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately review, interpret, and manage complex student records and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student service, with a strong desire to support and advocate for military-connected students.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex policies in a clear, supportive, and student-centered manner.
  • Effective problem-solving skills, including the ability to think critically, resolve issues collaboratively, and navigate nuanced or evolving situations.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students, colleagues, and campus partners.
  • High level of comfort using multiple technology platforms and systems, with the ability to learn new tools quickly and manage data across systems effectively.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and maintain accuracy in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a School Certifying Official.
