Adjunct Lecturer, Senior Capstone, Civil and Architectural Engineering and Mechanics

The Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering and Mechanics invites qualified applicants to apply for an Adjunct Lecturer position. Our current need is for an Adjunct Lecturer to teach our senior capstone design sequence that includes courses CE 408A, Issues Civil Engr Practice, and CE 408B, CE Senior Capstone Design, in the fall and spring of academic year 2026-27, respectively. This is anticipated to be a 0.0625 - 0.25 FTE position (Full Academic Year).

CE 408A is an introduction to non-technical issues impacting the practice of design professionals in the private and public sectors including: types of organizations, income, expenses, and profit; quality-based selection for obtaining and performing work; contracts; dispute resolution methods; professional ethics. The instructor, or invited practitioner experts, will present lectures on the topics. The design project is introduced in the Fall semester and the major students products are a Statement of Qualifications and a Design Concept Report (DCR).

The instructor will act as project manager, form project teams, and meet regularly with teams to monitor progress and address issues/concerns.

CE 408B focuses on the design with technical lectures to support student efforts. Technical lectures may be provided by faculty or practitioners. In addition to responding to comments on the DCR, students will submit required intermediate design review(s) and a final presentation. The instructor will regularly meet with students on progress and address issues/concerns and organize the final review panels. Industry practitioners can provide expertise and serve as secondary project managers.

• Three hours of lecture per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00pm to 6:15pm). The course syllabus and material will be provided by the department head.
• Lecture time may consist of classroom activities, team/discipline meetings, project related meetings and/or other activities as necessary.
• Prepare and assign various assignments (e.g., homework, quizzes, etc) to complement and assess team learning activities.
• Coordinate with grader that will help grading assignments.
• Communicate and collaborate with other practitioner experts as needed.
• Be accessible by students in office hours that may meet on campus or via phone/Zoom during their instructional period. Also, the lecturer should be available via email throughout the week.
• Enter grades into the UA online system.

• Bachelor's Degree
• Must have a PE license
• Must demonstrate experience, a strong working knowledge and excellence in Civil Engineering business

• A record of service to the profession, and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with practitioners is preferred.
• Experience teaching at the university level with preference to having taught this or a similar course.
