Range Explanation:
Hiring Range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity. Pay Range is the entire compensation range for the position.

The successful candidate will provide educational services for students enrolled in Pima County’s Las Artes alternative education program as an academic skills instructor. They will employ approved curricula consistent with the mission and objectives of the applicable education program. They will prepare students ages 17-22 in reading and language arts, math, social studies and civics, and science to successfully complete their G.E.D. exam.

Community & Workforce Development Department works with vulnerable populations and minors.

A Level one Fingerprint Clearance Card, a Criminal History Self Disclosure Affidavit, and a Central Registry background check are requirements for employment.

This classification is in the unclassified service and is exempt from the Pima County Merit System Rules.

Essential Functions
  • Participates in the development of teaching strategies that meet the learning styles of students as they prepare to meet State requirements for high school graduation, General Educational Development (GED) attainment, Employment Training and/or other applicable requirements;
  • Assesses the needs of students/participants and develops, implements, modifies and evaluates program instruction for students/participants, including scheduled activities and materials, in accordance with departmental requirements;
  • Evaluates the performance of students/participants regarding achievements in curriculum and activities and makes necessary provisions to meet learning needs;
  • Ensures students/participants, staff, and parents (if applicable) are informed of methods of evaluation utilized in the classroom;
  • Participates as a member of an instructional team to promote learning activities consistent with the program's mission and objectives, including monitoring the activities of a teacher's aide or classroom volunteers;
  • Notifies administration of the special needs of students who display characteristics which vary from the norm;
  • Maintains appropriate records and files and ensures that Arizona Department of Education and other applicable reports and documents are compiled accurately and submitted in a timely manner;
  • Performs on-going research of trends and innovations in the respective academic content areas and in strategies to reconnect out-of-school youth, or adult learners;
  • Collaborates with Pima County One-Stop Staff to assist students in acquiring additional training, education and/or employment opportunities after graduation or completion of program.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Six years of experience that may be any combination of completed coursework at an accredited college or university in education or a related field as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment OR experience working with at-risk individuals or vocational training, adult training or equivalent. (Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid Arizona Teacher Certification.
  • Minimum two (2) years teaching at-risk youth.
  • Minimum two (2) years teaching high school level.
  • Experience with/knowledge of adaptive learning platform techniques.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
