Position: Teacher for the Visually Impaired - Phoenix, Arizona

Job Description

Bring your expertise as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired to a collaborative and rewarding educational setting. In this full-time, contract role, you will support students with visual impairments by implementing specialized instructional strategies to foster independence, inclusion, and success in the classroom. Working alongside a dedicated educational team, you’ll help shape an accessible and positive learning environment for every child.

Key

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Valid teaching certification with specialized endorsement or credentials in teaching students with visual impairments
  • Experience working with school-age children in individual and group settings
  • Familiarity with braille, assistive technology, and adaptive materials for visually impaired learners
  • Ability to develop, adapt, and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with school staff, families, and support personnel
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple student needs and schedules

Core Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction in core academic subjects, compensatory skills, and orientation & mobility as appropriate
  • Assess student needs, monitor progress, and maintain accurate records in compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to ensure accommodations and modifications are in place
  • Provide training and consultative support on accessible materials and technology
  • Participate in IEP meetings, contribute to student goal setting, and document student growth
  • Advocate for the unique needs of visually impaired students, ensuring equitable access to educational opportunities
