Position HighlightsThe Genetic Counseling Graduate Program is seeking a qualified candidate for a non-tenure track Adjunct Assistant Professor of Practice position. The ideal candidate will have training and experience in genetic counseling and be prepared to teach both introductory and advanced coursework. Courses may include, but are not limited to, the Clinical Skills Workshop and Clinical Cancer Genetics.

Duties & Responsibilities- Serve as an instructor for up to one course during the Fall and Spring semesters, or serve as a co-instructor or teaching assistant for up to one course during each semester.
- Participate in and support student research activities within the U of A Genetic Counseling Graduate Program.
- Participate in the annual review of course curriculum and program admissions and contribute to service activities within the Program, College, and University.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development activities related to course design, course instruction, teaching methods, and other training opportunities identified by the U of A Genetic Counseling Graduate Program.
- Knowledge of, understanding of, and ability to teach on the topics of related to genetic counseling.
- Skill in counseling and risk communication techniques.
- Knowledge and application of the principles of health literacy and inclusive excellence.
- Understanding of and contribution to the department’s teaching mission.
- Possess and use strong written and verbal communication skills including public speaking, the ability to draft instructional documents, and the ability to work and interact effectively with all audiences.
- Ability to work cooperatively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators across a variety of units in a complex academic environment.
- Ability to plan and achieve short- and long-term goals driven by the mission and goals of the graduate programs.
- Possess and use strong organizational skills, problem solving abilities and abilities to maintain discretion and diplomacy toward sensitive and confidential information.
- An advanced degree in human genetics or a closely related field.
- At least two years of professional experience in a clinical or industry setting related to human genetics or genetic counseling.
- At least one year of experience teaching, instructing, mentoring, or supporting graduate-level students in a related academic or professional setting.
- Board-certified genetic counselor with willingness to obtain state licensure, when applicable.
- Experience developing genetic counseling courses and/or designing and evaluating curriculum.
- Experience using D2L or other learning management systems for instruction, assessment, and student evaluation.
- Research experience, including research design, scholarly activity, and dissemination of findings.
