The Electro-Optics Department within Raytheon Missiles & Defense is seeking a qualified Sr. Opto-Mechanical Engineer to design opto‑mechanical and EO subsystems using Creo (Pro/E). The role involves concept development, detailed design, analysis, integration, testing, and transition to production. The successful candidate will support factory production line activities and troubleshoot at supplier sites.
What You Will Do- Work within a multi‑disciplined team and independently with little supervision.
- Develop and leverage professional networks to obtain assistance when needed.
- Apply proper engineering discipline to all designs.
- Provide the best technical solution that balances cost, schedule, and performance.
- Support transition to production, including factory line support, root‑cause analysis, and corrective action at suppliers.
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) and a minimum of 5 years of mechanical design and analysis experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and 3‑D CAD tools (Creo).
- Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ANSI Y14.5.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience in opto‑mechanical design/analysis of imagers, afocals, gimbals, or focus/field‑of‑view switching mechanisms.
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
- Business acumen.
- Ability to travel to government and other facilities to support program activities.
- Active DoD issued security clearance.
- Mechanical aptitude to solve moderate‑scope technical problems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Industry‑related mechanical design and documentation experience.
Salary range: $82,000 – $164,000 USD.
