Opportunity
WSP is currently searching for an experienced Civil/Geotechnical Engineer for our Tucson, AZ office. You will work on projects within our US Mine Waste Team and contribute to mining, heavy civil, and geotechnical projects as part of a regional team.
Your Impact- Work within the Mine Waste team on civil and geotechnical engineering projects for the mining industry, with opportunities in other industries.
- Perform engineering tasks including:
- Site and material characterization
- Facility design such as grading, storage capacity, and construction quantity evaluations
- Slope stability, seepage, consolidation, liner system, and settlement analyses
- Surface water management facility design and analysis
- Prepare portions of technical reports documenting field and laboratory investigations, engineering analyses, and facility designs.
- Work individually or as part of a cross‑functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work, assisting with laying out installations, foundations, slopes, retaining structures, embankments, and other soil or rock supported systems, calculating costs and quantities of material, equipment, and labor, and ensuring project work conforms with specifications, permit applications, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
- Assist with the preparation of project design packages including technical drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates.
- Conduct geotechnical engineering studies and surveys to gain information on particular designs, issues, or future needs.
- Perform domestic and international field assignments such as geotechnical investigations and construction monitoring.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent field.
- 4+ years of relevant post‑education experience.
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or ability to complete the exam within 6 months of start date.
- Strong analytical skills for engineering calculations and analyses.
- Ability to work independently and on teams.
- Comfortable working in remote settings.
- Participation in a safety‑first culture.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Self‑leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi‑tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, and comply with company policies.
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to apply technical knowledge to testing results, data collation, statistical analysis, and arrive at effective solutions.
- Track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek and accommodate travel.
- Master’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or related engineering discipline.
- Engineer in Training certification.
