The Materials and Process Engineering Department, within Hardware Engineering, seeks a Materials Engineer II for the Advanced Materials Section in Tucson, AZ. The role supports research, development, and implementation of solutions to key material challenges.

• Collaborate with subject matter experts in ceramics and other materials, supporting processing and characterization.
• Collect and compile data and observations/results into reports for internal and external customers.
• Receive mentorship and empirical experience from senior engineers.
• Work independently or with teams to solve materials challenges.
• Travel as needed to support programs and work with vendors.

• Advanced materials and their uses, including ceramics and composites.
• Characterization techniques and evaluation of mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties.
• Material selection for specific applications and troubleshooting of material‑related failures.
• Supplier collaboration to support manufacturing efforts.
• Planning and development processes of materials within Raytheon.
• High‑temperature material challenges and development of new solutions.

• University degree or equivalent experience with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field.
• Experience in ceramics, coatings, or composite materials.

• Bachelor's degree in Materials Science/Engineering, Ceramics, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, or related disciplines.
• Experience working on programs, projects, or products associated with the Defense Industry.
• Strong verbal communication skills and proven ability to interact with cross‑functional teams.
• Good analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work independently or in groups, often with guidance from senior colleagues.
• Demonstrated multitasking capabilities in a fast‑paced environment.
• Experience with mechanical and/or chemical analysis methods and characterization techniques.
• Ability to write concise technical reports summarizing analyses.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong communication, interpersonal, planning, and time‑management skills.

• Salary range: 68,900 USD – 131,100 USD.
