The Materials and Process Engineering Department, within Hardware Engineering, seeks a Materials Engineer II for the Advanced Materials Section in Tucson, AZ. The role supports research, development, and implementation of solutions to key material challenges.
What You Will Do- Collaborate with subject matter experts in ceramics and other materials, supporting processing and characterization.
- Collect and compile data and observations/results into reports for internal and external customers.
- Receive mentorship and empirical experience from senior engineers.
- Work independently or with teams to solve materials challenges.
- Travel as needed to support programs and work with vendors.
- Advanced materials and their uses, including ceramics and composites.
- Characterization techniques and evaluation of mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties.
- Material selection for specific applications and troubleshooting of material‑related failures.
- Supplier collaboration to support manufacturing efforts.
- Planning and development processes of materials within Raytheon.
- High‑temperature material challenges and development of new solutions.
- University degree or equivalent experience with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field.
- Experience in ceramics, coatings, or composite materials.
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science/Engineering, Ceramics, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, or related disciplines.
- Experience working on programs, projects, or products associated with the Defense Industry.
- Strong verbal communication skills and proven ability to interact with cross‑functional teams.
- Good analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently or in groups, often with guidance from senior colleagues.
- Demonstrated multitasking capabilities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience with mechanical and/or chemical analysis methods and characterization techniques.
- Ability to write concise technical reports summarizing analyses.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong communication, interpersonal, planning, and time‑management skills.
- Salary range: 68,900 USD – 131,100 USD.
