Principal Specialist, Configuration Management

Tucson, Arizona, United States.

9/80 schedule (every other Friday off).

• Oversee execution of configuration management processes, including identification, control, verification, and status accounting for technical documentation and products such as technical drawings, hardware, basis–of–estimates, engineering bill of materials (EBOM), estimates, statements of work (SOWs), bids, and more to ensure alignment with contractual and organizational requirements.
• Establish and enforce procedures for managing engineering document changes, representing configuration management in cross‑functional implementation of common processes.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to configuration management team members while driving cross‑functional alignment and implementing best practices across programs.
• Lead configuration‑related projects, assess configuration risks, ensure compliance, and advise leadership on program readiness and overall configuration health.
• Develop accurate Basis of Estimates (BOEs) for proposals and provide configuration management expertise during gate and milestone reviews to ensure program success.
• Review and analyze released engineering change data, coordinating updates between engineering, quality, support, manufacturing, and data control teams.
• Conduct and/or lead configuration audits, resolve data discrepancies, and ensure compliance with configuration management plans, command media, and contractual obligations.
• Establish and maintain product baselines while ensuring data accuracy across systems and tools throughout the product lifecycle.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, and supply chain teams to support configuration and change control activities effectively.

• A degree with five years of professional experience (or nine years of experience if no degree); configuration management experience preferred.
• Experience working with databases such as SAP, ERP, PDM, CABS, PRISM, Cameo, or other related databases.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
• General knowledge and understanding of configuration management principles, policies, procedures, and tools.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with various engineering disciplines to ensure data integrity and compliance with configuration management policies.
• Ability to identify potential complex problems associated with technical engineering data regarding configuration management issues and to take corrective action as needed.
• Experience reviewing data and/or processing documentation and records.
• Eagerness to step up and work cross‑functionally to help train, advise, and offer solutions to problems.

• Competitive salary range: $86,800 – $165,200 USD.
