Position: Network Engineer, Principal Specialist,  Tucson, AZ, Onsite

Network Engineer – Principal Specialist, Information Workplace Services (P3)

Location:

Tucson, AZ (Onsite)

Responsibilities
  • Focus on inter‑team communication and documentation to support network projects.
  • Plan, evaluate, coordinate, and perform installation or reconfiguration of voice and data network hardware and software.
  • Maintain smooth operation of voice and data networks, including switches, routers, firewalls, authentication servers, encryptors, and network management software.
  • Propose networking solutions to ensure optimal performance, cost savings, redundancy, and required uptime.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed network documentation: operational instructions, technical diagrams, and other documentation.
  • Provide monitoring and network analysis for short‑ and long‑range planning.
  • Coordinate third‑party maintenance or vendor support for network equipment.
  • Design network architectures, select hardware and software packages, define hierarchical structures, and impose geographical limitations.
  • Collaborate with program engineers to resolve networking problems in tactical environments.
  • Mentor, train, and share knowledge with the technical team.
  • Work outside normal business hours (evenings and weekends) as required.
What You Will Learn
  • Apply network engineering skills to defense‑oriented programs.
  • Obtain Security+ certification within 6 months and CCNA within a year.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • University degree (or equivalent) with at least 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with at least 3 years of experience.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems, including software upgrades.
  • Active, transferable U.S. government‑issued security clearance (Secret). U.S. citizenship required.
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Security+ certification within 6 months and CCNA preferred within a year.
  • Cisco ISE experience with 802.1X, Solar Winds, and setting up client‑server environments for government networks.
  • Experience with current cabling and fiber standards.
  • Experience with ACLs, security posture, and vendor best practices.
  • Visio diagramming and design skills.
  • 1–2 years of experience with network management software.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and to work outside normal hours.
  • Knowledge of encryption device configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Effective customer service and strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with IP telephony, NTP servers, Gem One, Solar Winds.
  • Ability to work under time constraints.
  • Experience with classified computing, STIG compliance, and network refreshes.
  • Current DoD Top Secret clearance (if applicable).
Benefits

The salary range for this role is USD 86,800 – 165,200.
