SM-3 IIA Principal Quality Engineer
Location:
Tucson, AZ (Onsite)
Security Clearance: U.S. citizenship required; U.S. government Secret clearance required and must be active from day one.
What You Will Do- Develop partnerships with senior managers, Integrated Product Teams, and Factory Teams to lead root‑cause analysis, facilitate corrective actions, and implement closed‑loop process controls that improve product/process predictability and capability.
- Lead and/or collaborate with MDA, Quality & Mission Assurance, and Engineering on Material Review Board technical assessments, establishing and verifying requirement compliance.
- Drive continuous improvement in resolving nonconformance issues, reducing their impact to the factories.
- Create and execute a strategic plan to improve quality across SM‑3 production facilities and new development activities.
- Assess technical risks of non‑conformances using critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Conduct process and product surveillance throughout system development, maintenance, operations, and sustainment.
- Review change requests to assess technical impact.
- Support and oversee failure investigations.
- Plan, coordinate, and follow through on technical assessments and corrective actions.
- Organize cross‑functional teams to plan events in SM‑3 facilities, using data systems to identify cost‑effective process improvement targets.
- Interface with external and internal customers and stakeholders to communicate strategy and provide updates after realized improvements.
- Drive Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) methodology throughout SM‑3 production facilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM and at least eight years of engineering experience.
- Minimum five years of quality work experience.
- Experience managing teams in a matrix environment.
- Experience with Material Review Board (MRB).
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- U.S. citizenship required; ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government Secret clearance required.
- Advanced degree in STEM.
- Experience reading technical drawings and specifications.
- Experience on Missile Defense Agency programs.
- Experience organizing and leading cross‑functional meetings.
- Prior exposure to SM‑3 hardware and suppliers.
- Experience as an organizational spokesperson to senior product line personnel.
- Experience in product development in a DoD environment.
- Practical experience with statistical analysis tools.
- Experience implementing APQP methodology.
- Experienced coordinator of product and functional teams.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Competitive salary range: $107,500 – $204,500 USD.
