Senior Principal Engineer – Effector RF Design Team (Tucson, AZ)
Job SummarySenior Principal Engineer responsible for leading and shaping the architecture, analysis, design, and implementation of RF subsystems and sensors within missile products. Handles technical oversight, delegates tasks, works with engineering organization to establish technology roadmaps, enables modernization, and contributes to innovation. Interfaces with government personnel and program leadership on a regular basis. Provides guidance, coaching, mentoring, and training to colleagues.
Responsibilities- Specify, design, and test advanced RF sensors and subsystems across frequencies from MHz through millimeter‑wave.
- Decompose system‑level requirements into detailed RF component requirements.
- Measure RF components/sensors/subsystems, including performance in chamber and range environments.
- Perform modeling and analysis of link budgets, RF cascades, electromagnetic emissions (EME), antenna patterns, phase noise, receiver sensitivity, transmitter power, spurious signals, modulation, isolation, and ADC characteristics.
- Provide technical oversight and delegate tasks within the Engineering organization.
- Mentor and train other employees in RF design and analysis.
- Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM).
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in RF subsystem and sensor design, integration, or testing.
- Experience integrating across engineering disciplines (Systems, Mechanical, Software, Algorithms, etc.).
- Strong written communication and oral presentation skills.
- Active, transferable DoD Secret clearance required prior to start date.
- Advanced knowledge of RF component technologies: CCAs, wave guides, planar/printed antennas, RF modules, MMICs.
- Experience performing link budget analyses and antenna pattern measurements.
- Expertise in phase noise, mixer conversion spurs, AGC, sensitivity, intermodulation distortion (IMD), bit error rate, instantaneous bandwidth, adjacent channel interference, ADC measurements/calculations.
- Familiarity with spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generators, and arbitrary waveform generators.
- Strong understanding of EMI and EMV mitigation strategies.
- Competitive salary range: $132,400 – $251,600.
