Senior Principal Electrical Subsystem Architect

Position within the Advanced Effector Guidance Systems (AEGS) Department at Raytheon, located in Tucson, AZ. This onsite role requires U.S. citizenship and a valid DoD Secret clearance. The position offers a salary range of $132,400–$251,600, relocation assistance, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities
  • Chair technical reviews and set technical strategy across programs.
  • Own cross‑subsystem interfaces and drive complex multi‑disciplinary issue resolution.
  • Provide technical governance and adjudication across partner/supplier efforts.
  • Architect high‑reliability power systems and precision analog subsystems for guidance, navigation, and control electronics.
  • Lead power architecture trade studies, technology evaluations, and down‑selections aligned to performance, cost, producibility, and environmental constraints.
  • Assess and address designs across varying maturity: concepts, partial hardware, legacy, and near‑production.
  • Identify gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities and mentor teams to close those gaps.
  • Perform detailed analysis of power system loads, margins, thermal impacts, transient behavior, and electromagnetic compatibility.
  • Guide component selection, derating, survivability requirements, and high‑reliability screening.
  • Participate in engineering reviews, readiness events, risk reduction activities, integration efforts, and failure review boards.
  • Support hardware bring‑up, prototype evaluation, root‑cause analysis, and design refinement.
  • Coordinate with systems engineering, digital design, RF, modeling/simulation, GNC, and manufacturing to ensure robust and producible power architectures.
  • Communicate with Chief Engineers, Project Managers, Technical Fellows, Directors/VPs, and Executives.
  • Co‑optimize across electrical, thermal, structural, motor control, and mechanical impacts.
  • Support technology roadmaps and contribute to long‑term capability development.
  • Influence power architecture for next‑generation effectors and guidance systems within RTX Missiles & Defense.
Qualifications – Essential
  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM and minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
  • 10+ years in power electronics, analog design, mixed‑signal design, or high‑reliability electronics.
  • Experience in enterprise / cross‑company multidisciplinary architecture development.
  • Partner / SME adjudication and technical governance experience.
  • Experience with VHDL‑SMS/MAST mixed‑domain governance.
  • Ability to build platform roadmaps; evaluate & integrate cutting‑edge technologies.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret clearance. TS preferred; TS/SCI highly desirable.
  • Experience with missile systems, guidance electronics, harsh‑environment power systems, or seeker/power integration.
  • Experience leading multi‑company efforts and acting as technical authority.
  • Hands‑on experience with lab bring‑up, prototype testing, instrumentation, and failure analysis.
  • Effective SME negotiation across disciplines.
  • Modeling languages: VHDL‑AMS/MAST, State‑AMS; mixed‑signal and state‑aware models.
  • Expertise in high‑density or high‑efficiency power conversion, power sequencing, energy storage interfaces, or precision power control.
  • Experience with environmental qualification, MIL‑STD design, shock, vibration, and thermal extremes.
  • Proficiency with SPICE simulation, modeling tools, and best practices for power/analog design.
  • Understanding of EMI/EMC mitigation, grounding strategies, and system‑level power integrity.
  • Experience in program leadership, technical direction, or multi‑disciplinary coordination.
  • Mastery of harness effects, power quality, EMI/EMC, and signal integrity.
Qualifications – Preferred
  • Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in STEM.
  • Experience with missile systems and harsh‑environment power subsystems.
  • Hands‑on experience with lab bring‑up, prototype testing, and failure analysis.
  • Experience leading multi‑company efforts and acting as technical authority.
  • Familiarity with MIL‑STD‑704, MIL‑STD‑1275, MIL‑STD‑461, MIL‑STD‑464, MIL‑STD‑1553, MIL‑STD‑1760, RS‑422/RS‑485, Ethernet/TSN.
  • Familiarity with Model‑Based Engineering, requirements management, and digital engineering practices.
