Job Overview

Title: Materials Engineer

II – Onsite position in Tucson, AZ, requiring U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret security clearance obtained and maintained after day 1.

• Work with subject‑matter experts in ceramics and other materials, supporting processing and characterization.
• Collect and compile data and observations/results to report to internal and external customers.
• Collaborate independently or with teams to solve materials challenges.
• Manage and coordinate simultaneous tasks within set schedule requirements.
• Travel as needed to support programs and work with vendors.

• Advanced materials, including ceramics and composites, and their uses.
• Characterization and evaluation of various materials, measuring mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties.
• Selection of the correct material for specific applications and troubleshooting material-related failures.
• Working with suppliers to support manufacturing efforts.
• The maturation and development process of materials within Raytheon.
• Material challenges related to high temperature applications and opportunities to work on new solutions.

• University degree or equivalent experience with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field.
• Experience in ceramics, coatings, or composite materials.
• Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science/Engineering, Ceramics, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, or related disciplines.
• Experience working on Defense‑industry programs, projects, or products.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; proven ability to interact with cross‑functional teams.
• Analytical and problem‑solving skills; ability to work both independently and in groups with guidance from senior colleagues.
• Multi‑tasking capability in a fast‑paced environment.
• Experience with mechanical and/or chemical analysis methods and characterization techniques.
• Ability to write concise technical reports summarizing analyses.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

• Salary range: $68,900 – $131,100 (USD).
