Overview
This position is offered in the Engineering career area for a Quality & Manufacturing Engineering Manager at Caterpillar’s Tucson Proving Ground. The role leads product testing and validation, delivering trusted data that informs engineering decisions and accelerates advanced technologies.
Responsibilities- Serve as the site leader for validation quality, laboratory integrity, and continuous improvement, acting as a trusted partner to internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate across Engineering, Operations, and Customer Product Groups to deliver data‑driven solutions to complex challenges.
- Lead and sustain an ISO 17025–accredited Quality Management System, ensuring audit readiness and implementing corrective actions for nonconformances.
- Establish and monitor quality metrics tied to safety, process excellence, and outcomes.
- Lead Built‑In Quality (BIQ) strategy and deployment across validation and technical services, embedding BIQ into daily operations and using defect analytics to prevent defects upstream.
- Champion Lean and Six Sigma initiatives aligned to customer value and risk reduction.
- Ensure validation methods and workflows are robust, repeatable, and credible, overseeing test integrity and readiness—including calibration, contamination control, torque and weld quality, and pre‑delivery inspection standards.
- Partner with Operations to improve process capability and execution.
- Lead a multidisciplinary team—including Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Lean, Training, and Site IT—to develop team capability, engagement, and future leaders.
- Manage operating and capital budgets aligned with site priorities and balance program priorities for safety, risk, cost, and delivery.
- Experience in quality, manufacturing, engineering validation, or technical services leadership, with a strong background in ISO 17025.
- Deep understanding of engineering validation processes, laboratory operations, and manufacturing flow, and the ability to interpret technical documentation.
- Demonstrated use of RCCA, Six Sigma, and Lean methodologies with strong analytical skills for risk assessment and decision guidance.
- Strong communication skills, capable of translating technical detail into customer‑focused outcomes.
- Ability to lead cross‑functional teams without direct authority.
- Track record of building a quality culture of accountability, learning, and continuous improvement.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business (preferred).
Primary work location:
Tucson Proving Ground – Green Valley, AZ; the position requires on‑site full‑time work.
Travel: up to 10% may be required.
Schedule:
9/80 work schedule, providing an extra day off every other week (equivalent to 26 additional days off per year).
