The responsibilities for this role include providing corrosion engineering, technical support, direction and oversight to the Company corrosion control program for the Natural Gas Pipeline business unit, primarily supporting Division 1 (EPNG and Mojave pipelines in CA, NM, AZ and TX) including policy and procedure development and technical review and support of corrosion related issues and tasks. This position is part of KM's Operations Support Group (OSG) Corrosion Control department that includes 11 corrosion engineers/specialists reporting to the Manager-Corrosion Control, supporting corrosion control activities across all of Kinder Morgan.

This position reports to the Manager-Corrosion Control with dotted-line responsibilities to Division 1 Operations Management.

What You Will Do

* Support Division 1 corrosion personnel in establishing corrosion control priorities including alignment between operational tasks and corporate philosophy.

* Facilitate consistent application of Company corrosion control procedures across Division 1 natural gas pipeline and storage assets.

* Assist in the technical development and mentoring of operations-based corrosion control personnel through routine interactions and providing technical review and support.

* Participate in annual corrosion program reviews including reviewing and provide feedback on the review report.

* Provide technical expertise and assistance in problem-solving to the field-based corrosion supervisors and corrosion technicians for complex corrosion control issues such as stray current, remedial actions, AC mitigation, atmospheric and underground coatings, electrical isolation, above-ground surveys such as close-interval survey, DCVG and ACVG, design for specialized or complex cathodic protection systems, and internal corrosion monitoring programs.

* Review and provide feedback on remedial action mitigation plans resulting from in-line inspections, cathodic protection surveys, close interval surveys, and internal corrosion inspections to assist in assuring development of cost-effective solutions consistent with corporate philosophy.

* Provide support for the technical problems of corrosion control for operations, project engineering and engineering design.

* Review and provide feedback on scopes and specifications as needed for complex projects such as close-interval surveys and other field surveys including remedial actions, stray current testing and mitigation, data interpretation and engineering analysis, cathodic protection design, internal corrosion mitigation system design and monitoring including coupons and solid/liquid/gas sampling analyses, and programs for monitoring, assessment and mitigation of complex corrosion mechanisms such as SCC, high-temperature corrosion and microbiological influenced corrosion.

* Make informed decisions involving corrosion mitigation requirements, such as atmospheric coatings, cathodic protection, and internal corrosion monitoring technologies such as coupons and liquid and solid sampling, and develop recommendations on corrosion mitigation based on results from inline inspection.

* Provide subject-matter expertise where needed in communications with DOT and state regulatory agencies and in corporate audits.
