Mechanical Engineer – Defense Systems Hardware Development
AboutThe Role
Our Mechanical Engineering team is seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, integration, and production of mission‑critical defense systems. In this role, you will lead hardware development efforts from early concept generation through production and ongoing sustainment.
The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical design expertise with hands‑on system integration experience, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to drive technical execution in a fast‑paced engineering environment.
Responsibilities- Lead mechanical hardware design activities from concept development through production release
- Develop detailed 3D CAD models, drawings, and engineering documentation
- Support prototype builds, testing, system integration, and production transition activities
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with electrical, manufacturing, systems, and program teams
- Drive design improvements, root cause investigations, and production support efforts
- Ensure designs meet performance, quality, manufacturability, and reliability requirements
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship within small to mid‑sized engineering teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field
- 5–10 years of mechanical engineering experience
- Proven experience supporting the full product lifecycle, including:
- Concept development
- Detailed design
- Transition to production
- Production/sustainment support
- Hands‑on experience with:
- 3D CAD design tools
- Product Data Management (PDM) systems
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to work effectively in team‑oriented engineering environments
- Experience with the design, fabrication, and integration of electronic assemblies, shelter assemblies, and power distribution equipment
Preferred Experience
- Prior leadership of small to mid‑sized technical teams
- Self‑driven leadership style with strong interpersonal skills
- Defense, aerospace, or ruggedized hardware development experience
Contract to Hire position based out of Tucson, AZ.
Pay And BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $60.00 – $80.00 per hour.
