This role is focused on operating, maintaining, and supporting a range of fabrication and prototyping equipment, with a strong emphasis on desktop‑grade and industrial 3D printing and post‑processing. The position involves preparing and finishing printed parts through tasks such as support removal, washing, UV curing, sanding, buffing, painting, and installing inserts, while also performing basic CAD modifications to improve printability using Creo Parametric.

The job also involves managing materials and inventory, maintaining work queues, meeting customer deadlines and quality expectations, and educating employees on additive manufacturing options, materials, and design strategies.

Responsibilities
  • Manage additive lab technician tasking and scheduling.
  • Work with technicians, internal engineers, and customers to ensure needs are met and parts are produced in a timely manner.
  • Track lab work (labor, materials, etc.) accurately via internal systems.
  • Ensure machines operate efficiently, minimize downtime, maintain bulk and consumable inventory, and achieve constant throughput.
  • Prioritize customer jobs and give precedence to hot jobs.
  • Consult with customers on design for additive manufacturing, capabilities, limitations, and materials.
  • Provide guidance and training on all aspects of 3D printing, assisting customers with making the best decisions for additive requests.
  • Provide accurate cost and schedule quotes to customers.
  • Manage large‑scale additive manufacturing projects, e.g., fabricating an entire product for display.
  • Manage customer interactions and overall project design, procurement, schedule, and cost.
  • Maintain and grow shop capabilities, materials, workflows, schedule, and efficiency.
  • Diagnose, provide repair guidance, and determine permanent solutions to issues with additive equipment or processing.
  • Collaborate with Capital, Facilities, and Labs to continue to grow additive capabilities through the Capital Request process.
  • Work alongside other additive SME’s throughout Raytheon by consulting, learning, assisting, and actively participating in the Additive community.
  • Occasionally operate, maintain, and repair several 3D printers, including FDM, SLA, Polyjet, BMD, and SLS machines.
  • Perform CAD of parts and assemblies using DfAM.
  • Teach "Introduction to Additive Manufacturing" classes to employees occasionally.
Qualifications
  • Typical degree in STEM and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience or an advanced degree with minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Minimum 5 years experience with desktop‑grade 3D printers.
  • 3+ years experience with industrial‑grade 3D printers.
  • Experience with CAD design, DfAM, and additive technologies.
  • Experience maintaining and repairing machinery, working alongside manufacturing technicians.
  • Experience in leadership, manufacturing, or engineering roles.
Qualifications We Value
  • Experience with industrial‑grade 3D printers.
  • Cross‑disciplined engineering and manufacturing expertise (e.g., electrical fabrication, welding, composites, machining).
  • Hands‑on experience operating, maintaining, using, and repairing various 3D printer types (SLA, FDM, CFR, Polyjet, BMD, SLS).
  • Detailed knowledge of different 3D printing methods, media, and options, including design recommendations.
  • Advanced CAD and 3D modeling skills to modify parts, prepare them for printing, create molds, and recommend design changes.
  • Extensive experience repairing, building, and/or maintaining 3D printers.
What We Offer
  • Security clearance required (DoD Secret).
  • Relocation based on candidate eligibility.
  • Competitive salary range (~$86k‑$165k).
