Position Summary

The Town of Oro Valley Water Utility seeks a highly motivated, dependable, results‑driven individual with a strong water production and treatment background to work in the Water Production Department. The successful candidate will report to the Water Operations Supervisor and work collaboratively with other water operations staff.

Under close supervision, the candidate will operate, maintain, service, and repair water production site equipment, electrical instrument control, SCADA, security, chemical systems, and maintain water quality.

Expected Starting Salary: $50,110 – $56,373 (depending on experience and qualifications).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Operate, maintain and repair water production facilities including wells, boosters, reservoirs, electrical control equipment, security and chemical systems.
  • Operate, maintain and repair all above ground facilities and equipment, security and chemical systems.
  • Assume process control of the water system’s water production and reclaimed water delivery facilities using SCADA.
  • Maneuver the SCADA network and operation of the system.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on water production facilities.
  • Assist in the installation of electrical motors for water pumps and troubleshoot electrical components.
  • Repair and install flow meters and determine flow rates.
  • Analyze water for chlorine residual concentrations, distribute sodium hypochlorite for disinfection and maintain chlorinator stations.
  • Provide assistance in reading production meters and instrumentation and document production activities, logs and records.
  • Follow and implement OSHA requirements pertaining to water utility safety.
  • Supervise Arizona Department of Corrections inmates and coordinate projects consistent with the program as assigned.
Water Quality Responsibilities
  • Assist water quality programs including sampling and backflow prevention compliance, updating and modifying department policies and Town Ordinances related to water quality monitoring.
  • Produce sampling schedules and perform sampling in accordance with State and Federal Regulations.
  • Create and submit sampling plans, SOPs and documents required by ADEQ.
  • Maintain working relationship with laboratories, review and interpret laboratory analysis and request appropriate bottle sets.
  • Create and maintain databases for water quality data to be kept on record or submitted to ADEQ.
  • Assist with compliance reports including consumer confidence reports and utility annual reports.
  • Work with management to solve water quality issues.
  • Assist in departmental budget planning and monitoring.
  • Assist with purchasing of materials and equipment related to water quality programs.
  • Ensure water quality monitoring and backflow prevention programs are in compliance with Federal and State drinking water regulations.
  • Stay informed on current water quality regulations, pending changes and report potential impacts to the utility.
  • Act as a key member of the Emergency Response Team.
  • Investigate and respond to complex customer inquiries regarding water quality concerns.
  • Maintain knowledge of Arizona Drinking Water Rule and stay current with changes.
  • Assist with the Backflow Prevention program, notifying customers, installing construction devices, and updating the program database.
  • Perform backflow duties if the program administrator is not present; certification in backflow prevention is required.

  • Interpret and apply relevant statutes, ordinances, codes, rules and regulations governing water utility operations.
