Position Summary
The Energetics and Propulsion Department is seeking a Principal Engineer – Solid Propulsion for Tucson, AZ. The role involves advanced technologies, systems integration, and program management for solid rocket motor propulsion systems.
Responsibilities- Apply advanced technologies, scientific principles, and concepts to integration of propulsion, thrusters, controllers, software, mechanical and electrical interfaces.
- Engage in development and production programs across product lines.
- Review manufacturing processes, resolve problems, and work with subcontractors on design and manufacturing of solid rocket motor propulsion systems.
- Collaborate with program management on long‑range planning and serve as technical spokesperson.
- Manage propulsion system development projects and subcontracts; review data and change requests; oversee supplier operations.
- Develop and deliver technical presentations to management and government agencies.
- Interface frequently with customers to identify user needs.
- Support business development and independently resolve issues in missile programs.
- Bachelor in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years of relevant experience, or equivalent experience.
- Experience developing solid propulsion systems.
- Active U.S. government security clearance (Secret) and U.S. citizenship required.
- 12 or more years of directly related experience in propulsive technology, including solid or liquid or mono‑propellant systems.
- Prior Patriot Missile experience.
- Systems knowledge to develop and disseminate propulsion requirements to subcomponents.
- Project engineering skills, including Earned Value Management.
- Proposal/cost account management or project/team leadership experience.
- Ability to lead collaborative efforts with structural, thermal, aerodynamics and low observables disciplines.
- Willingness to travel internationally for supplier support.
- Supplier collaboration experience and oversight in generating specifications and SOW.
- Knowledge of missile design, development, production support, and integration.
- Experience with DoD customers and/or contractor executives.
- Salary range: $132,400 - $251,600 USD.
