The Precision Control Actuation System department is seeking a mechanical design engineer to join the multi-disciplinary PCAS organization to support the development, build, and verification of control actuation systems. The PCAS organization staffs mechanical engineers for a variety of roles supporting primarily control section Integrated Product Teams.
Job is located in Huntsville, AL or Tucson, AZ.
What You Will Do- You will provide various mechanical engineering support as needs of programs fluctuate. Based on skillsets, support may include but not limited to detailed mechanical design, earned value management, test design and execution, and systems engineering.
- You will be expected to flex responsibilities based on the current needs of the organization and their respective skill sets.
- At this grade level, you will be expected to work autonomously with regular and periodic supervision, have theoretical to advanced knowledge of the control mechanism development domain, and influence others through explanation of facts, policies and practices
- The PCAS organization provides ample opportunities for hands-on hardware work, with a dedicated lab space at our Huntsville and Tucson facility.
- PCAS mechanical engineers are exposed to a variety of lab activities including engineering builds, hardware integration, hardware tuning, and hardware verification.
- The PCAS organization provides a strong technical learning environment with a dedicated control system technology pyramid comprised of engineering fellows.
- PCAS mechanical engineers are provided the opportunity for direct access to these subject matter experts, fostering accelerated technical growth.
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics(STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience.
- Experience in mechanical mechanism design OR flight control systems for aerospace or defense applications
- Experience developing flight control systems for aerospace applications
- Experience collaborating with major subtier suppliers
- Knowledge of design and verification test of systems for common or composable products
- Flexibility to travel to supplier sites for TIMs
- Create Daily Action Plans and track actions using a RAIL
- Perform performance testing on actuators and interpret results
- Familiarity with concepts of gear design, motor design and control architecture
- Experience with Creo modeling software and Windchill/cPDM for TDP maintenance and support including peer review process, change board process, variances, supplier requests and change notices
- Basic proficiency with model development and data analysis in MATLAB/Simulink
- Experience working with and integrating hardware.
- Systems engineering design and development
- Ability to estimate project / tasks level of effort
- Ability to articulate, in both oral and written form, to technical, non-technical and management audiences
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
